PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Poor Franklin (ranked 4620 p4p, 4574 weight class) and Kirsnick Khari Ball (ranked 479 p4p, 476 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Poor Franklin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kirsnick Khari Ball!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franklin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ball! But no joy.
Franklin tries to clinch but Ball moves out of range.
Franklin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ball tries a head kick but it misses.

Ball scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Ball postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Franklin to stand up.

Ball shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ball was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Ball tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ball has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ball trying to control the position but Franklin is working away.

Ball decides to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ball shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ball showed some decent athleticism there.
Franklin looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ball is looking to advance position but Franklin won't allow it.
Franklin punching from the bottom.
Ball works his way into full mount!
Franklin is looking to improve his position but Ball isn't that keen on the idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Franklin tries to hold on but Ball pushes him away.
Ball wants to control the pace but Franklin is squirming around nicely.
Franklin is desperately trying to improve his position but Ball has a good base and remains in mount.
Ball takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Franklin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ball tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Franklin really wants to buck Ball off and get back to his feet.
Franklin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Franklin is trying to stand.
Franklin tries to hold on but Ball pushes him away.
Franklin working to try and regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ball takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Franklin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ball looking to control but Franklin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ball throwing strikes here but Franklin is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ball sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Ball is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Franklin is surviving well by controlling Ball's body position as best he can.

Franklin bucks up and throws Ball to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kirsnick Khari Ball dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ball pushes Franklin up against the cage in a clinch.
Franklin swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Franklin takes an elbow to the forehead.
A frustrated look appears on Franklin's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Ball has picked Franklin up - he's going for a ride! Ball dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Ball is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ball is trying to control. Franklin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ball trying to mount his opponent but Franklin defends it.
Kirsnick Khari Ball has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ball wants to take a breather but Franklin is having none of it.

Ball gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Franklin blocks a head kick by Ball.
Franklin has a takedown stuffed.
A little jabbing left from Ball on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Some wild striking there from Franklin.

Ball forces Franklin back against the cage and clinches.
Franklin tries to break the clinch but Ball is controlling the position.

Ball pulls guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Franklin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ball looking for a guillotine here but Franklin defends easily.
Franklin wants to pass the guard but Ball is keeping the position.
Franklin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ball is proving hard to escape from.
Franklin tries to free his leg and advance position but Ball is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ball manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Ball pushes Franklin back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Ball.

Ball breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Franklin throws a hook but Ball avoids it easily.
No joy there for Franklin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ball smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Ball takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Franklin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ball throws a fast counter high kick but Franklin manages to duck under it in time.
Franklin throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ball walks into a stiff left hand from Franklin.

Ball rushes Franklin and presses him up against the cage.

Ball gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Ball has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Franklin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ball trying to control but Franklin is working from the bottom.
Franklin wants to get back to his feet but Ball is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ball throwing strikes but missing.

Ball stands up and waves to Franklin to follow him.
Franklin throws an off balance right hand
and Ball counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kirsnick Khari Ball showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Franklin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ball circles away quickly and effectively.

Franklin gets tackled into the cage by Ball. Ball maintains the clinch.
Franklin has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ball after a bit of a struggle.

Ball manages to break the clinch.
Franklin looks to score with a jab to the body but Ball is just out of range.

Ball darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Franklin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Ball is on him like a limpet, forcing Franklin back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ball wants the takedown. Franklin is fighting it off but Ball persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Franklin's guard against the cage.

Franklin pushes Ball off and scrambles back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ball scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Ball wants to pass to mount but Franklin is defending the position.
Franklin trying to control but Ball postures up.
Ball thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Franklin's head.
Ball missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Ball escapes and gets back to his feet.
Franklin is looking to land body kicks.
Franklin doesn't manage to clinch there - Ball circles away.
Ball tries a head kick but it misses.
Poor Franklin is winning the standup battle so far.
Franklin looks to throw the jab but Ball is out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Franklin misses.
Franklin is looking to clinch.
Franklin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ball.
Franklin fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ball rushes Franklin and presses him up against the cage.

Ball pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Franklin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Ball closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Ball clinches up with Franklin and pushes him back against the cage.

Ball escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ball scores with a head kick.
Poor Franklin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ball closes the distance and clinches.

Ball turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Ball is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Franklin has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Franklin is trying to improve his position.
What's Franklin going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Ball lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
An elbow from Ball crashes against the mat.

Ball stands up and beckons Franklin to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A slapping body kick lands there for Ball.
Poor Franklin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ball avoids the body shot from Franklin.
Franklin tries to clinch up.

Ball moves into the clinch successfully.

Ball gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Franklin kicks Ball off and gets back to his feet.
Franklin fails with a takedown attempt.

Ball rushes Franklin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ball pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kirsnick Khari Ball is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ball throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Franklin was covering up waiting for the punch and Ball finishes the takedown easily into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kirsnick Khari Ball.
I've got Ball winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
