PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bull Mfer (ranked 2315 p4p, 4182 weight class) and Kemar Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Powell's choice of entrance music: Lil Baby & Lil Durk - Hats Off. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bull Mfer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kemar Powell!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mfer throws a right and a left that Powell avoids nicely.
Powell scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

It looks like Bull Mfer has been cut.

Powell gets caught flat footed, as Mfer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Mfer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mfer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mfer is fighting to break Powell's control of his arms but Powell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powell tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Mfer has gone for a leg lock! Powell slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mfer's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mfer is looking for a triangle but Powell pushes his legs off easily.

Powell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
I've been told that Powell has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.

Powell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mfer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mfer has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Powell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mfer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Powell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Powell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mfer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mfer has his foot on Powell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Powell works his way back into a safe position though.

Mfer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Powell defends it easily.

Mfer has an active guard here but Powell has managed to pass into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Mfer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powell pulls his head out easily.
Powell prevents Mfer from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Powell trying to mount his opponent but Mfer defends it.

Mfer actively working from the bottom here.
Powell slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Powell tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mfer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mfer is looking to improve his position.
Powell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mfer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mfer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Powell pulls his head out easily.

Powell controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A decent looking cross lands there for Mfer.
Powell misses with a hook. Mfer ducked under it nicely.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bull Mfer will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Bull Mfer's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

No joy there for Mfer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mfer.
Mfer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Powell tries to avoid it but Mfer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Powell to the ground. Powell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Powell feints a counter leg kick.
Mfer shoots in for a double leg but Powell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bull Mfer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mfer connects with a body shot that sends Powell's belly button to the back.

Powell dodges the punch combination from Mfer.
Mfer tries for a takedown but Powell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mfer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Powell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mfer sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mfer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Powell moves away.
Mfer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And Powell responds with a good body kick, but Mfer manages to step out the way in time.

and Powell counters with a leg kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Powell misses with a low kick.
Mfer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Powell counter with a right hand.
Mfer dives in for a single leg takedown but Powell sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Powell lands a shoulder strike.
Still in the clinch, Powell scores with a nice short uppercut.
Powell prevents a takedown attempt there.

Powell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That kick from Powell tenderised Mfer's leg. Mfer is trying to keep his angry face on.
Kemar Powell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circling - Powell throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mfer keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Powell.
Mfer changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Powell throws a quick inside leg kick.
Powell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mfer.
Mfer throws a body shot but no joy.

Powell drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Powell looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Mfer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Mfer looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Mfer steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Powell.

Mfer shoots for a double leg takedown but Powell sprawls well. He's pushed Mfer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Powell lands a left and a right that send Mfer crashing to the mat, dazed. Powell thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Powell throws a leg kick which misses Mfer's front leg but catches the back leg as Mfer tries to avoid it.

Mfer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Powell darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Powell looks for the body kick but Mfer saw that one coming.
Powell misses the jab.
Powell throws a head kick that misses.
Kemar Powell seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nice sprawl there from Powell as Mfer shoots in.
Mfer misses with a takedown attempt - Powell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Powell swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Powell throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Bull Mfer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mfer fails with the takedown.
Powell throws a chopping leg kick but Mfer manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Powell wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mfer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Powell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mfer somewhat.

Mfer looks to land a combination but Powell avoids it well.
Powell looks to land a right hand but Mfer moved out of range.
No joy there for Mfer, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mfer is looking to wear down Powell with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Mfer chopping away at his opponent's legs.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Powell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Powell misses with a low kick as Mfer jumps back.
Mfer pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Powell back to the cage. Mfer follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Powell scores with a hook to the body. Mfer takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Mfer throws a sloppy head kick and Powell moves out of range easily.
Mfer blocks a low kick nicely.
Powell looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kemar Powell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Bull Mfer's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Mfer shoots in looking for a takedown but Powell manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mfer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nice straight punches there by Powell. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Powell.
Powell throws a body shot but no joy.

Powell lands a big uppercut and Mfer crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Mfer looks OK. Powell waves Mfer back to his feet!

Mfer is rocked!
Powell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mfer misses with a takedown
and Powell counters with a thumping low kick.
Oh Mfer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Powell is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Powell shuts the power down on Mfer. Lights out, game over! Powell is your winner.
