PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Esponosa (ranked 1757 p4p, 3493 weight class) and Sergei Lagavulin (ranked 243 p4p, 420 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sergei Lagavulin!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Esponosa defending well as Lagavulin loads up on a big left hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Esponosa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Esponosa is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lagavulin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Sergei Lagavulin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lagavulin enables Esponosa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lagavulin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Esponosa has his foot on Lagavulin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lagavulin works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Well Lagavulin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
