PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hap Chandler (ranked 4405 p4p, 4435 weight class) and Ivan Clinchevsky (ranked 0 p4p, 461 weight class). Clinchevsky has chosen Primer 55 - Loose as his entrance music. Ivan Clinchevsky has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hap Chandler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Clinchevsky!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chandler fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Clinchevsky avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chandler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A shot to the liver by Clinchevsky. Beautiful body shot.

and Clinchevsky counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Chandler thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hap Chandler. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clinchevsky shoots in but Chandler avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Clinchevsky checks a leg kick.
Clinchevsky throws a counter combo.
Chandler tries to clinch there but Clinchevsky circles away.

Chandler clinches up against the cage.

Chandler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chandler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Clinchevsky paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Chandler misses with the combination.
Clinchevsky wants to counter with a clinch but Chandler pushes him away.
Chandler throws a head kick that misses.
Chandler shoots in looking for a takedown. Clinchevsky tries to sprawl out of it but Chandler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Clinchevsky manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hap Chandler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chandler shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Clinchevsky is trying to defend but Chandler finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Clinchevsky has one foot on Chandler's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Chandler stuffs the takedown attempt from Clinchevsky. Clinchevsky gets slowly back to his feet.

Clinchevsky closes the distance and clinches up with Chandler, looking for a takedown. Clinchevsky pushes Chandler against the cage but Chandler circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chandler throws a big counter combination but Clinchevsky scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Chandler takes a kick to the side of the head.
Chandler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Clinchevsky fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Chandler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Clinchevsky!
Clinchevsky tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chandler wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chandler has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Chandler shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Chandler wants to control from the top but Clinchevsky keeps moving.
Chandler postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Clinchevsky is trying to control the position but Chandler postures up.
Clinchevsky looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Clinchevsky has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chandler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Chandler stops Clinchevsky from standing up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Clinchevsky dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Chandler throws a body punch but Clinchevsky moves out of range.
Clinchevsky is looking to clinch but Chandler is avoiding it.
Hap Chandler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chandler tries to clinch but Clinchevsky is having none of it.
Clinchevsky shoots in but no luck this time.
Chandler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Clinchevsky paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Clinchevsky enables Chandler to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Clinchevsky manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Chandler changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clinchevsky looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Clinchevsky bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Chandler throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clinchevsky was covering up waiting for the punch and Chandler finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Clinchevsky has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Chandler is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chandler is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Clinchevsky lands a good knee to the midsection. Chandler won't want to take too many of those.

Chandler breaks the clinch.

Chandler is thwarting Clinchevsky's attempts to control the position.

Clinchevsky is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Clinchevsky is pressing down on Chandler's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Clinchevsky wants to stand up but Chandler is controlling him.
Chandler has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ivan Clinchevsky seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Clinchevsky looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chandler is fending him off so far but Clinchevsky persists. Nope, Chandler circles away and we're back to standing.

Ivan Clinchevsky showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Chandler manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Clinchevsky on his heels. He'll look to pass Clinchevsky's guard now, I'm sure.

Clinchevsky has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Chandler off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Chandler not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Clinchevsky circles away from the clinch attempt.

Chandler fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Clinchevsky to the ground. Chandler is now in Clinchevsky's guard.
Chandler connects with a couple of short punches.
Chandler might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Chandler is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Chandler wants to control from the top but Clinchevsky keeps moving.
Clinchevsky wants to sweep here but Chandler controlling him for the moment.

Clinchevsky is trying to maintain the position but Chandler is very close to passing his half guard.

Hap Chandler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ivan Clinchevsky is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Clinchevsky is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hap Chandler.
Well Clinchevsky has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
