PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24716 p4p, 24668 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 26 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 23 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buut tries for a takedown but Buktot sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Buktot misses with a body kick.

Buut gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Buktot to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Buut wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot wants to control from the top but Buut keeps moving.

Buktot controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Buut is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Let's hope that Buut has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Buut being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Buktot tries for a takedown but Buut sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Buut fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown but Buut shows good takedown defense.

Buut closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Buktot did well to prevent Buut getting side control.
Buktot is trying to control but can't.
Buut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Buktot is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Buut defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Buktot.
Buut misses with a takedown attempt
and Buktot counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

and Buktot makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Buut really felt that one!
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Buut tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Buktot defends well and Buut ends up having to push Buktot into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Buut slaps away a takedown attempt from Buktot, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Buktot looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Buut!

Buut sneaks out the side door and pushes Buktot away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Nice sprawl there from Buut as Buktot shoots in.
Buut closes the distance and clinches up with Buktot, looking for a takedown. Buut pushes Buktot against the cage but Buktot circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Buut is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Walay Buut has got the better of the ground game so far.

Buktot is controlling Buut's posture.
Buut content to stall in guard here.
Buktot is pulling down on Buut's head to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Buktot has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Buut is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Buut leaves Buktot with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Both fighters circling a little - Buut finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot fails to land the takedown.
Buut replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Buktot blocks it well.

Buut stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Buut wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buktot fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Buut changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buktot tries to avoid it but Buut manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buktot to the ground. Buktot escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Buut follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Buut throws a lazy body kick

and Buktot counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Buktot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buut can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Buktot controls the pace.
Buut looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Buktot advances position into side control!

Buut has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Buut sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Buktot is looking to stall here but Buut recovers full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Buut is adopting a defensive guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

I would just about give that final round to Walay Buut.
Well Buut has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
