PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Theodore Bundy (ranked 2616 p4p, 2424 weight class) and Nico Ressler (ranked 157 p4p, 145 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Theodore Bundy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Nico Ressler!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bundy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ressler.
Ressler has a takedown stuffed.
An attempted straight right counter from Bundy misses the target.
Ressler scores with a sloppy right hand. Bundy should have avoided that one.
Ressler walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A combination from Bundy does no damage.
Bundy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bundy throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
As Bundy backs off Ressler throws a huge counter combo but Bundy manages to avoid it all.
Ressler moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The crowd cheers as Bundy lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ressler doesn't seem phased though.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ressler has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
A punch lands to the side of Bundy 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Ressler clinches with his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ressler's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Ressler tries to pull guard but Bundy holds him up against the cage and eventually Ressler drops back down to his feet.
Ressler lands a shoulder strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ressler tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Theodore Bundy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nico Ressler.
Bundy throws a knee to the head but misses.
Ressler fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Bundy is leaning against Ressler and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Ressler is trying to pull guard but Bundy has him pressed against the cage.
Ressler throws a punch but it's blocked by Bundy.
Ressler is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Bundy is keeping busy.
Bundy with a knee to the head.

Bundy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ressler takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Ressler ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ressler changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bundy missing with a left hand there. Ressler was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Bundy lands a head shot.
We've been told by Bundy's head coaches at PhoQus Island Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Bundy lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Ressler with a poor takedown
and Bundy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nico Ressler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ressler uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bundy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bundy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ressler.
It looked like Bundy was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ressler.

Bundy tries to keep at a distance but Ressler has taken the fight into the clinch.
Ressler tries to pull guard but Bundy won't allow it.
Ressler throws a head punch that misses.
Bundy looking to throw knees to the head but Ressler is blocking nicely.
Bundy tries to land a knee to the head but Ressler blocks with his arms.
Ressler tries to stall but Bundy uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Ressler pulls guard effortlessly.
Ressler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bundy is looking to control Ressler's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bundy avoid being mounted?
Ressler trying to mount his opponent but Bundy defends it.

Bundy is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Ressler has latched onto it... Big trouble! Ressler pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Bundy is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Ressler!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Nico Ressler!
In his post fight interview, Nico Ressler gave a big smile as he said 'Hey Colby Taylor you need a fight or are you just gonna hide and hope? I know he'll duck me after all we all saw what happened the first time he faced a well rounded opponent.'.
