PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gaultier Girard (ranked 2011 p4p, 1996 weight class) and Fiore Azul (ranked 270 p4p, 266 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gaultier Girard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fiore Azul!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Azul misses.
Girard ducks under a wild hook from Azul.
Girard is looking to counter the offense by Azul and move into the clinch.
Girard takes a swing at Azul's ribcage but misses.
Gaultier Girard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Azul looks to score with a jab to the body but Girard is just out of range.
An attempted straight right counter from Girard misses the target.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Azul lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Girard has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Girard and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Azul pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Girard throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Girard looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Azul avoids the head kick by Girard.
Girard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Azul throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Girard shoots in but no luck this time.
Azul tries a head kick but it misses.
Azul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Girard.
Girard closes the distance but Azul moves to the side
and Azul counters with a stiff right hand.

Girard lands a jab to the head.
Girard blocks a low kick nicely.
Girard changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Girard looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Azul cracks a nice hook into Girard's ribs.
Azul bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Girard's head.
Girard darts in looking for a takedown but Azul gets double underhooks and turns Girard into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gaultier Girard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Azul is trying to trip Girard. He has hold of a leg but Girard is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Azul persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Girard has an active guard here but Azul has managed to pass into half guard.
Azul slips a nice elbow through Girard's hands, connecting with Girard's forehead.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Azul lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Azul in particular looking to stall.
Girard on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Girard tries to get out of the position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Azul lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still in half guard, Azul seems content to control.

Azul slips a nice elbow through Girard's hands, connecting with Girard's forehead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Girard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Azul scores with a couple of nice shots.
Azul controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Azul has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Azul landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Azul has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Azul scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Azul is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Girard is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Azul scores with a couple of nice shots.

Girard is rocked!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Azul in particular looking to stall.
Girard is in trouble now - Azul has advanced to mount!
Girard is in a horrible position here. Azul smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Oh Girard is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Azul in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Azul cracks Girard with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
