PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Agbay Amiga (ranked 24386 p4p, 24584 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 33 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Agbay Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 28 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Amiga shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Amiga showed some decent athleticism there.
Salvacion tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Amiga has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Salvacion is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Amiga seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Salvacion for as long as he can get away with.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salvacion is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amiga takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Salvacion tries to hold on but Amiga postures up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Agbay Amiga dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Amiga misses with a takedown attempt - Salvacion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Salvacion replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Amiga blocks it well.
Amiga leaves Salvacion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Amiga throws a big counter combination but Salvacion scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Amiga dives in and grabs Salvacion's left leg, looking for a takedown. Salvacion pushes down on Amiga's head and hops out.

Amiga is controlling Salvacion's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Amiga is looking to control Salvacion's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Amiga avoid being mounted?

Amiga is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Salvacion is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Amiga wants to improve his position but Salvacion is controlling well.
Amiga desperately trying to maintain half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Salvacion avoids a kick to the body.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Salvacion feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Salvacion throws a strike but Amiga rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Salvacion is working an open guard so Amiga takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Agbay Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rico Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Amiga's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Salvacion looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Amiga not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Salvacion is fighting to break Amiga's control of his arms but Amiga is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Amiga is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Salvacion stays in close to Amiga's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Amiga closes this distance looking for a takedown but Salvacion circles away.
Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Salvacion shoots in and drives through. Amiga sprawls well.
Amiga seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Agbay Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rico Salvacion.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Amiga but Amiga pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Amiga is looking to counter with a body kick.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Salvacion is defended easily by Amiga.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rico Salvacion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
