PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lamont Banner (ranked 3818 p4p, 3436 weight class) and Eddie Bravo (ranked 433 p4p, 408 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 1, fighting out of New York, Lamont Banner !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eddie Bravo!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Banner swings away with a body shot that misses

and Bravo decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Banner 's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Bravo working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Bravo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Banner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bravo has managed to get both his arms back between Banner 's legs - danger averted.
Bravo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Bravo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bravo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Bravo connects with a couple of short punches.

Banner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bravo defends well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bravo wants to control from the top but Banner keeps moving.

Banner working for a triangle but Bravo defends it easily.

Banner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bravo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bravo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Banner 's head.
Banner keeping moving, preventing Bravo from controlling successfully.
Banner keeping full guard, as Bravo tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bravo advances to half guard.

Banner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bravo pulls his head out easily.
Banner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bravo is trying to work for a kimura but Banner is defending well.

Banner looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Banner on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Bravo winds up and cracks Banner with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Nice strikes from Bravo there.

Banner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bravo pulls his head out easily.

Bravo seems to be looking for submissions.
Bravo trying to control from half guard but Banner is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Banner looking for submissions off his back.
Bravo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Banner trying to hold on to Bravo's head to control him but Bravo postures up.

Bravo is working for a kimura but Banner is defending it quite comfortably.
Banner wants to control but Bravo passes into side.
Banner sneaks back into half guard.
Bravo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Banner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Bravo wants to work for an arm triangle but Banner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bravo sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Banner defending well though.
Bravo works his foot free and advances to mount.

Bravo working for a submission but Banner is keeping him at bay.

Bravo raining down hammerfists from mount.
Banner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Banner is working hard here to advance position.
Banner sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Bravo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Bravo is trying to control the action in half guard but Banner is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bravo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Banner is trying to maintain the position but Bravo is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bravo trying to pass the guard but Banner defending well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Bravo dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Bravo misses with a body shot.
Banner was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Bravo tries to clinch up but Banner circles away and keeps his distance.

Banner clinches up against the cage.

Banner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Banner throws a right and a left that Bravo avoids nicely.
Bravo changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bravo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banner lands a lovely overhand right.
Banner connects with a right hand. Bravo shakes it off.

Banner cracks Bravo with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Bravo looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Banner finish him?

Bravo is rocked!
Banner throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Banner misses with a body kick.
Bravo with the counter takedown but Banner avoids it easily.
Bravo closes the distance but Banner moves to the side
and Bravo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Bravo is still on wobbly legs! Can Banner finish him?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bravo takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Bravo seems to have recovered his senses.
Banner connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bravo momentarily.
Banner misses with a straight right.
Bravo drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Banner defends it well.
Banner tries to work over Bravo's front leg with a kick but Bravo checks it.
Bravo with the counter takedown but Banner avoids it easily.
Bravo tries for a takedown but Banner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Banner . Bravo does a little dance to reset his feet.
And Bravo tries to counter it with a takedown but Banner pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Lamont Banner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie Bravo.
Banner looks to land a right hand but Bravo moved out of range.
Bravo feints the counter takedown.
Bravo darts in looking for a takedown but Banner gets double underhooks and turns Bravo into the cage.
Banner wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Banner connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Banner throws a series of punches but Bravo moves out of range.
It seemed like Bravo was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Banner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Banner throws a good cross that connects.
Bravo lands a nice shot to the body.
Bravo gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Banner gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lamont Banner !
A relieved looking Lamont Banner thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
