PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Simon (ranked 839 p4p, 1142 weight class) and Bruce White Jr (ranked 123 p4p, 170 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jay Simon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bruce White Jr!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White Jr is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Simon lands a body shot.

Simon moves into the clinch successfully.
Simon misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Simon tries to work over White Jr's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Simon tries for a takedown but White Jr manages to get underhooks.

White Jr breaks from the clinch.
Simon lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Simon scores with a jab to the head.
Simon digs a good body shot into White Jr's ribs.

Jay Simon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
White Jr misses with a wild body shot.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nice uppercut lands for Simon. That snapped White Jr's head back.
White Jr walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
It looks like Simon has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Simon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches White Jr napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Simon tries to move to mount but White Jr blocks the move with his legs.
White Jr is trying to get back to half guard.

Simon looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Simon tries to move into full mount but can't pass White Jr's legs.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Simon wants to lay and pray for a moment but White Jr keeps working.
Simon tries to advance to mount but can't.
White Jr can't do much from the bottom here.
Simon tries to move into full mount but can't pass White Jr's legs.
White Jr wants to control but Simon postures up.
White Jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Simon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Simon tries for a kimura but White Jr is defending well.

Simon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Simon goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, White Jr has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Simon but great work by White Jr.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
White Jr misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
White Jr is looking to take a break and control but Simon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Simon manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
White Jr is in trouble now - Simon has advanced to mount!
Simon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Simon moves to the back.
Simon biding his time, looking for the opening.

White Jr is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Simon throws a sloppy body shot
and White Jr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
White Jr takes one on the button.

Simon bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
White Jr throws out a loose jab but Simon uses good head movement to avoid it.
White Jr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Simon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that White Jr can do to turn this around?
White Jr ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simon throws a good cross that connects.

A countering left hand to the body from White Jr misses.
Simon shoots for a double leg takedown but White Jr sprawls well. He's pushed Simon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from White Jr! But no joy.

I wouldn't like to be where White Jr is right now.

Simon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, White Jr has escaped the position, nice work there.
Simon takes a little break here. White Jr wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Simon advances to full mount.
Simon wants to control the pace but White Jr is squirming around nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Simon goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now White Jr is on top in guard.

Simon has his foot on White Jr's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. White Jr works his way back into a safe position though.

Simon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Simon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. White Jr manages to get himself to full guard.

Horrible takedown attempt by Simon or perhaps it was just good defense by White Jr, which made it look bad.

Simon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
White Jr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
White Jr moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Simon connects with a right hand. White Jr shakes it off.
The fighters circling - White Jr throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

White Jr now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

I really don't envy Simon right now.

Simon is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if White Jr gets his way!

Simon goes for an armbar but he's not got it… White Jr turns into him and now he's in Simon's guard.

Simon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. White Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. White Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

I would just about give that final round to Bruce White Jr.
Well Simon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
