PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlton Smithers (ranked 2079 p4p, 2959 weight class) and Kenny Tchusuk (ranked 109 p4p, 155 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlton Smithers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 44 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenny Tchusuk!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithers looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Smithers misses with a looping right.
Smithers swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Tchusuk counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Good standup being displayed there by Smithers as he connects with a hook.

It looks like Kenny Tchusuk has been cut.
Smithers throws a left and a right that both miss
and Tchusuk counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Smithers lands with a nice body punch.
A punch combination from Smithers misses.
Tchusuk throws a lazy right hand but Smithers sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smithers misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Tchusuk counters with a left and a right that stings Smithers.
Tchusuk takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tchusuk shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Oh, that's a big right hand from Tchusuk and Smithers goes tumbling to the canvas! Tchusuk follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.

Smithers is rocked!

It looks like Carlton Smithers has been cut.

Tchusuk wants to work for an arm triangle but Smithers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Tchusuk is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smithers has managed to free his arm - good work.
Smithers pushes Tchusuk off looking to stand but Tchusuk dives back in and keeps control.
Smithers is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Mike Jones MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Tchusuk is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Smithers makes his way to full guard, as Tchusuk worked for a kimura.

Smithers wants to hit a sweep here but Tchusuk passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Smithers there!

Tchusuk working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Smithers wants to control but Tchusuk is having none of it.

Tchusuk goes for an armbar but Smithers turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Smithers.

Tchusuk working for a triangle but Smithers defends it easily.

Tchusuk throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Smithers escapes and throws Tchusuk's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tchusuk sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Smithers is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Smithers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smithers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Tchusuk actively working from the bottom here.
Still in half guard, Smithers seems content to control.

Smithers moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Tchusuk.

Smithers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tchusuk to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smithers just misses with a punch to the body.
Tchusuk now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Smithers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tchusuk tries a quick counter leg kick but Smithers is wise to it.
Smithers throws a body punch but Tchusuk moves out of range.
Tchusuk lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Tchusuk moves forwards but Smithers connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Smithers lands a head shot.
Smithers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tchusuk's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Smithers connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Tchusuk scrambles back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kenny Tchusuk will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Smithers paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Smithers misses with an uppercut. Tchusuk saw that one coming.
Smithers works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Tchusuk moves out of range as Smithers strikes.
Tchusuk doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Smithers throws a half hearted mid kick.
Tchusuk takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Tchusuk gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Smithers.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smithers lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Smithers scores with a jab. Tchusuk acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Smithers takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tchusuk swings and misses with a shot to the body
letting Smithers counter with a right hand.

That has opened up Kenny Tchusuk's cut even more.

Smithers throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Tchusuk counters with a thumping low kick.
Smithers sizes up Tchusuk with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Smithers blocks a jab.

Oooooh!!! Smithers has knocked Tchusuk down with a huge combo! Smithers steps away and waves a wobbly Tchusuk back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Tchusuk rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Smithers counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Smithers is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Smithers lands a left and a right that send Tchusuk crashing to the mat, dazed. Smithers thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Tchusuk is still on wobbly legs! Can Smithers finish him?

The cut above Kenny Tchusuk's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Crack! Smithers connects with the perfect overhand right and Tchusuk falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Smithers!
