PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Sully (ranked 1538 p4p, 2916 weight class) and Binsar Siregar (ranked 206 p4p, 375 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Binsar Siregar enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Sully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Binsar Siregar!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Siregar.
Sully throws a lazy right hand but Siregar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Binsar Siregar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Siregar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Siregar goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
It looked like Sully wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Siregar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sully manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sully comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Siregar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Siregar gets the takedown into side control.
Siregar controls the position.

Siregar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Siregar wants to control but Sully is keeping him busy.
Siregar taking a break here but Sully is having none of it and regains half guard.
Siregar is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sully is looking to control Siregar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sully avoid being mounted?
Siregar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Siregar sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sully defending well though.
Sully is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sully is not content to let Siregar control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sully misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Siregar.
Nice body punch from Sully.
Siregar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sully stuffs the takedown attempt from Siregar. Siregar gets slowly back to his feet.
Sully just misses with a punch to the body.
Siregar flicks out a counter leg kick but Sully steps away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sully. Siregar does a little dance to reset his feet.
A jab from Sully finds it's way through Siregar's defenses.
Sully throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Siregar counters with a nice body shot.

Siregar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sully, pushing him back against the cage.
Nice body punch from Siregar - that landed with a thud.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Good body shot from Siregar.
Sully tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Siregar manages to break the clinch.
Sully changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Siregar takes a jab right on the kisser.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Siregar darts in looking for a takedown but Sully gets double underhooks and turns Siregar into the cage.
Jake Sully has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Binsar Siregar.
Siregar tries to clinch up.
Sully swings widly with a right hand
and Siregar counters with a right hand to the body.
We've been told by Sully's head coaches at Snake Eyes Fighting Systems that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Sully misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Siregar.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A big left from Sully misses.
Siregar lands with a straight right. Sully didn't see that one coming.

Sully gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Siregar to score an easy takedown into full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Binsar Siregar will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Siregar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sully's waist but Sully gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Siregar off to one side.
Siregar darts in trying to clinch
enabling Sully to counter with a crisp jab.
Sully throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Siregar throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Siregar keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Siregar moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sully throws a big shot that misses.
Siregar steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Sully.
Siregar shoots in looking for a takedown. Sully tries to sprawl out of it but Siregar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sully manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Sully was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Siregar.

Siregar lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Sully swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sully is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Siregar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sully avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Jake Sully has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Binsar Siregar.
Siregar tries to pull guard but Sully won't allow it.
Sully gets underhooks to prevent Siregar's takedown attempt.
Sully lands a right hand that snaps the head of Siregar backwards.
Siregar tries to pull guard but Sully holds him up against the cage and eventually Siregar drops back down to his feet.

Sully tries to work over Siregar's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Sully has a couple of punches blocked by Siregar.
Sully is pressed up against the cage. Siregar has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sully down to the mat. Sully avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Siregar.

Siregar looking to score a takedown here. Sully is defending well but Siregar drives through and ends up in Sully's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Siregar wants to control from the top but Sully keeps moving.
Sully preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Siregar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Siregar throwing strikes from guard but Sully blocks nicely.
Siregar is looking to work some ground and pound but Sully has wrist control.
Siregar wants to control from the top but Sully keeps moving.

Sully lands with a nice body punch.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sully throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sully throws out a powerful jab.
Siregar closes the distance but Sully moves to the side
and Sully counters with a right hand to the body.
Siregar lands with a kick to the temple. Sully shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Siregar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sully looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Siregar creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The ground and pound from Siregar seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Sully sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Siregar keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Siregar's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jake Sully will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Sully gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Siregar.
Siregar has Sully pushed against the cage.
Sully lands a body punch in the clinch.
A hook to the body from Sully.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
A short left from Sully.
Siregar has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sully after a bit of a struggle.

Siregar prevents a body shot from Sully.

Siregar tightens his grip and picks Sully up, before dumping him to the ground. Sully manages to land in guard.
Sully pulls Siregar in close to prevent any damage.
Siregar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Siregar being controlled here momentarily.
Sully looking for a sweep. Not yet Sully, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sully keeping moving, preventing Siregar from controlling successfully.

Siregar controls from within his opponent's guard.
Siregar trying to control the position from guard on top but Sully is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Siregar lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Sully misses with a hook.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Siregar! But no joy.
Siregar uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sully.
Sully looks to throw the jab but Siregar is out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Siregar tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Siregar dives in and scores a takedown into Sully's guard.
Sully has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Siregar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Siregar passes into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sully moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake Sully.
I think Sully has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Jake Sully didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
