PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rimtas Kentas (ranked 420 p4p, 858 weight class) and Akeen Coker (ranked 64 p4p, 130 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rimtas Kentas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Akeen Coker!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kentas throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Coker stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
We've been informed that Coker has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Kentas blocks a jab.
Kentas is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Coker.

Kentas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Coker sprawls well initially but Kentas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Coker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Coker has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Kentas escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Kentas!
Coker is not content to let Kentas control the position.
Kentas tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kentas has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coker is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Coker has given up his back. Will we see Kentas going for some submissions?

Kentas working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Coker wants to escape the position.
Kentas doesn't have the hooks in and Coker manages to turn into his guard.
Kentas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kentas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Coker's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Coker had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kentas defends it easily.

Kentas advances position into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kentas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rimtas Kentas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Kentas changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Kentas throws a poor cross that misses
and Coker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

It looks like Rimtas Kentas has been cut.
Kentas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Coker moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Coker tries to move into range but Kentas moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Good standup being displayed there by Coker as he connects with a hook.
Coker looks to throw the jab but Kentas is out of range.
A slow jab from Coker misses its intended target.

Kentas drives through with a takedown into Coker's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Coker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kentas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kentas stays in close to Coker's body and controls the position.
Kentas forces his way into half guard.

Coker looking for submissions off his back.

Coker looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Kentas pushes past his half guard into mount!

Kentas working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Coker looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Kentas! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Rimtas Kentas!
After winning the bout, Rimtas Kentas thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
