The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

jones gets caught flat footed, as Varner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Varner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Varner trying to control but jones is working from the bottom.
Varner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
jones wants to sweep but no luck.

Varner decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Varner shoots for a double leg takedown but jones sprawls well. He's pushed Varner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Varner fails to land the takedown.

Varner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. jones sprawls well initially but Varner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Varner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Varner blocks the strikes from jones.
jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
jones gets full guard.
Varner wants to stand but jones has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Varner trying to control but jones is working from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Varner wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of jones's closed guard. He's half up but jones has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! jones pivots and extends the arm, Varner falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by jones! Well done that man!
