PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Maldini (ranked 3070 p4p, 1209 weight class) and Alain Aspect (ranked 391 p4p, 160 weight class). Aspect has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paulo Maldini!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Alain Aspect!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Aspect.
Aspect takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A telegraphed right hand from Maldini misses the target.
A big right from Maldini misses.
Aspect bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Maldini throws a good cross that connects.
Nice cross by Maldini.
Maldini scores with a jab. Aspect acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Aspect is rocked!

Aspect clinches with his opponent.
Aspect is still on wobbly legs! Can Maldini finish him?

Maldini breaks from the clinch.
Maldini throws a looping overhand right but Aspect ducks down to avoid it.
Aspect tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Maldini manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

It seemed like Aspect was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aspect tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Maldini paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Maldini feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Aspect sprawling to the canvas! Aspect rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Maldini finish him?!
Maldini flashes Aspect a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. Aspect's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Aspect crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Maldini punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paulo Maldini!

Paulo Maldini decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
