PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Roll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Sobral!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randy Roll!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roll misses with an uppercut.
The fighters circling - Roll throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Roll misses with a straight left.
Roll misses with a wild body shot.
A big right from Roll misses.
Sobral takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


It looks like Thiago Sobral has been cut.
Sobral tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sobral shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Roll pinned against the cage. Roll gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Roll lands with a straight right. Sobral didn't see that one coming.
Some bone on bone action there as Sobral checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Roll fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Sobral is out of range.
Randy Roll seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sobral decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Roll is looking to get back to full guard here but Sobral has managed to pass to side control instead.
Roll wants to hold on but Sobral pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roll is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Sobral is staying active.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sobral really is a fat lump.
Sobral prevents Roll from getting the reversal.
Roll tries to lock up and control but Sobral gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roll can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sobral landing strikes, looking to finish!

Roll defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Sobral.
Sobral throws some wild stikes that Roll manages to avoid easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Roll working to try and regain half guard.
Roll is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Roll tries to lock up and control but Sobral gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sobral is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Roll can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Roll holds on for dear life.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roll regains half guard.
Roll is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sobral is looking for a kimura here.
Roll keeping control of the position.
Roll regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Roll thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Roll seems keen to control Sobral's posture.
Roll is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Roll is pulling down on Sobral's head. It's preventing any offense from Sobral, at least for the moment.
Roll tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Roll dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Thiago Sobral's cut.
That's time! Sobral's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Donk. Roll catches Sobral right on the button with a cross.
Sobral moves out of range as Roll throws a body kick.
Roll drops his shoulder and cracks Sobral with a huge uppercut! Sobral goes down! Can Roll finish him?


Sobral is rocked!
Roll really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sobral. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roll gets to his feet and stands over Sobral, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Sobral felt that one! Roll unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Sobral from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Randy Roll!
