The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hampton avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hampton walks into a jab.
Gomez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Carlos Gomez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gomez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Gomez throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Gomez gets caught flat footed, as Hampton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gomez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gomez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hampton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hampton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hampton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gomez has momentary wrist control but Hampton slips an elbow through the middle.
Gomez controls Hampton momentarily but Hampton frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomez working a defensive guard but Hampton passes into half guard.
Hampton is nestled in close to Gomez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Hampton seems to be working for a kimura but Gomez defends the submission attempt.
Hampton is thwarting Gomez's attempts to control the position.
Gomez gets back to full guard.

Gomez will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Gomez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hampton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gomez is looking for a triangle here but Hampton uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Gomez tries to buck Hampton off but Hampton is having none of it.

Hampton tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hampton has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gomez is looking to regain half guard here but Hampton keeps moving and retains side control.
Gomez stops Hampton from passing to mount.

Gomez tries to lock up and control but Hampton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hampton looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Gomez covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

A relieved looking DeVon Hampton thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
