PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darsin Bleak (ranked 227 p4p, 211 weight class) and Anthony Epolito (ranked 37 p4p, 36 weight class). Bleak's entrance music is Enter Sandman. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Epolito's choice of entrance music: Rowdy/ Bandits. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darsin Bleak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Epolito!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Epolito fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bleak manages to avoid it.

I really don't envy Epolito right now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Epolito working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bleak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bleak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bleak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Epolito swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bleak is working Epolito over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bleak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bleak is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Epolito defends well.

Epolito has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Bleak is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bleak connects with a nice short shot to Epolito's temple.

Bleak looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Epolito with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Anthony Epolito has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bleak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bleak, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
