Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Carter Simon (ranked 5224 p4p, 4842 weight class) and Shaun Ryder (ranked 371 p4p, 364 weight class). The key to victory for Carter Simon has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Carter Simon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shaun Ryder!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryder misses with a takedown attempt
and Simon counters with a series of strikes. Ryder will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ryder looks for a takedown but Simon sprawls well.
Simon is looking for a counter combo.
Simon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Simon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Simon thows a body kick. Ryder tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Ryder circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ryder bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ryder connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Simon some visible discomfort.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Simon is trying to escape the position but Ryder is controlling the position.
Ryder has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ryder is looking to take a break and control but Simon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Simon takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Simon can't do much from the bottom here.

Ryder looks up at the clock and then as Simon takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ryder smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Simon takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Simon is trying to improve his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ryder decides to stand back up. Ryder steps back and let's Simon get back to his feet.
Ryder has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Ryder shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Simon counters with a three punch combo that has Ryder backing up. Ryder nods at Simon to acknowledge the strikes.
Carter Simon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shaun Ryder.

Ryder seems keen to control Simon's posture.

Simon lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Ryder avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Ryder looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ryder wants to sweep but no luck.

Ryder has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Simon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ryder is pulling down on Simon's head. It's preventing any offense from Simon, at least for the moment.

Ryder throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Simon escapes and throws Ryder's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Ryder is not content to let Simon control the position.
Simon cracks Ryder with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ryder is looking for a sweep.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Simon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Ryder gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Ryder pushes Simon off looking to stand but Simon dives back in and keeps control.
Ryder gets back to full guard.
Ryder is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Simon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carter Simon will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Simon throws a one two combo.
Ryder has his takedown stuffed
and Simon counters with a one-two to the body.

Simon gets caught napping as Ryder dives in and scores a takedown. Simon manages to retain guard.
Simon wants to stand up but Ryder is controlling him.
Ryder postures up and lands a big shot to Simon's brow.
Ryder controlling from the top position.
Ryder chips away with some ground and pound.
Ryder not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ryder's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Simon looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Simon keeping moving, preventing Ryder from controlling successfully.
Ryder cracks Simon with a solid left hand.
Shaun Ryder has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ryder scoring with some ground and pound.
Ryder is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Simon is rocked!

Oh Simon is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ryder wants to control from the top but Simon keeps moving.
Simon seems to have got his legs back now.
Ryder scoring with some ground and pound.
Ryder is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Ryder is working Simon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Ryder with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Ryder seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ryder stands and throws Simon's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Simon is not content to let Ryder control the position.

Ryder tries for a kimura but Simon is defending well.
Ryder is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Ryder is trying to get an arm triangle but Simon is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ryder's best efforts.
Ryder seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Simon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ryder looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ryder is nestled in close to Simon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ryder in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Ryder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Ryder lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Simon quite badly. Simon pulls Ryder in close trying to recover. Ryder postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Simon on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Simon doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shaun Ryder!
