Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronaldo Gomes (ranked 1260 p4p, 1295 weight class) and Juan Carlos (ranked 191 p4p, 199 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Ronaldo Gomes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Carlos!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlos looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Gomes has managed to clinch.

Carlos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Carlos moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Carlos looks for the body kick but Gomes saw that one coming.
Carlos misses with an uppercut.
Gomes went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Gomes walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gomes blocks a head kick by Carlos.
Carlos misses with a wild combination.
Gomes tries to clinch there but Carlos circles away.
A little jabbing left from Carlos on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carlos is looking to land body kicks.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Carlos works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Carlos looking to sit in guard and control but Gomes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gomes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carlos is proving hard to escape from.
Carlos looking for a sweep. Not yet Carlos, not yet.
Carlos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gomes would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gomes won't allow Carlos to sweep him here.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gomes wants to stand but Carlos has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Carlos gets tackled into the cage by Gomes. Gomes maintains the clinch.

Carlos throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gomess head.

Carlos tries to break the clinch but Gomes is controlling the position.

Carlos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Carlos moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Carlos gets a takedown into half guard.
Gomes tries to kick Carlos off but Carlos keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Gomes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Carlos looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've been hearing good reports from Gomes's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Carlos wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gomes keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Carlos is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gomes lands with a nice combination. Carlos backs away looking to recover.

It looks like Juan Carlos has been cut.
Gomes takes one on the button.
Gomes uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Carlos.
Gomes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carlos slips a jab from Gomes.
Carlos chopping away at his opponent's legs.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Gomes scores with a punch to the head.

Carlos shoots in and gets a takedown into Gomes's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carlos trying to control but Gomes is working from the bottom.
Gomes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Carlos stops Gomes from standing up.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Carlos. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Carlos trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gomes is looking to stand up but Carlos isn't so interested in that idea.
Carlos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carlos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Carlos throws the left hand but Gomes avoids the punch easily.
Gomes throws a right hand that Carlos ducks under and follows up with a left that Carlos also avoids with ease.
Carlos follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Carlos is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Carlos catches Gomes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Gomes moves into range and clinches up with Carlos.
Carlos lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Gomes or not.
Carlos tries to break the clinch but Gomes is controlling the position.
Carlos throws a punch but it's blocked by Gomes.

Gomes on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Carlos is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Gomes to keep the fight standing.
Carlos lands a left hand that snaps the head of Gomes backwards.
Carlos can't find room to land a body shot as Gomes controls the action.
A short uppercut from Carlos.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gomes prevents a body shot from Carlos.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Carlos is trying to force a seperation but Gomes has the dominant position.
Carlos is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Gomes scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Carlos is trying to drag Gomes to the mat but Gomes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ronaldo Gomes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Carlos.

Gomes blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Carlos is trying to maintain a safe position but Gomes gets an underhook and turns Carlos into the cage.
Come on Carlos - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Carlos is looking to control Gomes's arms but Gomes gets an underhook and turns him. Now Carlos has his back to the cage.
Gomes swings wildly with an uppercut but Carlos uses good head movement to avoid it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carlos is trying to maintain a safe position but Gomes gets an underhook and turns Carlos into the cage.
Carlos has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Carlos misses with a punch to the body.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Carlos lands an uppercut.
Juan Carlos seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Carlos looking to throw knees to the head but Gomes is blocking nicely.
Carlos is working for takedown but Gomes is calmly controlling the position for now.

Carlos goes for a takedown attempt but Gomes pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Gomes shoots in for a double leg but Carlos sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Juan Carlos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gomes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Carlos.
Carlos dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Gomes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Carlos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gomes walks away with a smile on his face. Carlos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Carlos takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Carlos lands with a kick to the temple. Gomes shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Carlos throws a good cross that connects.
Carlos throws an overhand right that lands on Gomes's shoulder, as Gomes tries to avoid the shot.
Carlos throws a big shot that misses.

Gomes shoots in and drives through. Carlos sprawls well.
Carlos scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gomes tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Carlos tries to pull guard but Gomes holds him up against the cage and eventually Carlos drops back down to his feet.

Gomes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carlos won't allow Gomes to get back to his feet.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ronaldo Gomes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nice defenses there by Gomes.
Gomes takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Carlos feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gomess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Carlos looks to land a combination but Gomes avoids it well.
That kick from Carlos tenderised Gomes's leg. Gomes is trying to keep his angry face on.
Carlos connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gomes's hands.

Carlos has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Juan Carlos seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gomes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carlos swats him away and circles back towards the center.
