Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Barry Jones (ranked 5510 p4p, 4298 weight class) and John Masterson (ranked 387 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Barry Jones has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones missing with a left hand there. Masterson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Masterson shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Masterson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones tests Masterson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Barry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Masterson fails with a takedown attempt.

Masterson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Masterson on the ground.

Masterson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Masterson shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense.

Masterson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

and Masterson counters with a takedown into side control.

Jones prevents Masterson from moving into mount.

Masterson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Masterson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Masterson is staying tight to Jones's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Masterson decides to stand back up. Masterson steps back and let's Jones get back to his feet.

Masterson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Masterson stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Masterson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Masterson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Jones's shoulder. That is not cool.

Masterson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Masterson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Jones is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Masterson yanks on the arm and Jones is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Masterson.
