PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Rowen (ranked 4061 p4p, 6140 weight class) and Jero Wolf (ranked 460 p4p, 522 weight class). Wolf is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Better Together. Brendan Rowen could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jero Wolf's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brendan Rowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jero Wolf!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolf lands a two punch combo.
Rowen throws a right hand that misses

and Wolf counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Wolf is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rowen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wolf is looking to advance position but Rowen won't allow it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wolf connects with a nice short shot to Rowen's temple.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Wolf working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wolf in particular looking to stall.

Wolf drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wolf jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Wolf has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rowen wants to stand and escape but Wolf is having none of it.
Wolf is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Rowen ducks under a wild hook from Wolf.

Rowen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Wolf counters with a straight right hand.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jero Wolf dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Rowen shoots for a takedown but Wolf saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wolf tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Wolf moves into full mount! Rowen won't be happy about that!

Wolf is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rowen has managed to escape the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wolf has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rowen's face.
Rowen tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Wolf is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Rowen is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Rowen flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Wolf anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Rowen and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Wolf slips an arm under Rowen chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Wolf has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Wolf is squeezing on Rowen like an anaconda would it's prey. Rowen fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jero Wolf!
Jero Wolf was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
