The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Girard throws a series of punches but Phillips avoids them all with ease.
Girard fails in his attempt to clinch.
A quick step to the side and Phillips tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Girard throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Phillips is looking to counter punch.
Girard slips a straight right by Phillips.
Girard moves out of range of the strikes.
Phillips takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Phillips gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Girard counters with a right hand to the body.
We've been informed that Girard has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Girard.
Phillips was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Phillips darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Phillips feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Girard sprawling to the canvas! Girard rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Phillips finish him?!
Phillips throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Girard fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Phillips avoids it really well and circles away.
Horrible takedown attempt by Girard or perhaps it was just good defense by Phillips, which made it look bad.
Jack Phillips has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gaultier Girard.

Girard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Phillips's guard.
Girard wants to control from the top but Phillips keeps moving.

Girard lying in Phillips's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Phillips decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Girard taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
