PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jackson (ranked 2946 p4p, 3625 weight class) and Sam Wylie (ranked 374 p4p, 454 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sam Wylie was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sam Wylie!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wylie tries to bum rush Jackson with a series of wild strikes but Jackson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wylie getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Wylie connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jackson. Jackson circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Wylie lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jackson at a distance.
Jackson takes one to the chin there.
Jackson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Wylie throws a hook to the side of Jackson's head but Jackson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jackson attempts a counter takedown but Wylie avoids it well and moves away.
Wylie stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Jackson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wylie to score with a decent uppercut.
Wylie feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jacksons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This has been an exciting period of action!
A combination from Wylie does no damage.
Jackson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nice shot lands for Wylie.
The fighters circling - Wylie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Wylie changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Jackson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wylie to score with a decent uppercut.

Jackson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wylie wants to improve his position but Jackson is controlling well.

Jackson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wylie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jackson.

Wylie is defending against the submission attempts here by Jackson.
Wylie looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Jackson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wylie defends it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wylie is looking to improve his position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Jackson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wylie dives on top into guard.

Wylie stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jackson is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Cozad The Island, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Wylie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.

Wylie is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wylie might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Wylie is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jackson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Jackson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Wylie throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Wylie might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Jackson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Wylie takes a swing at Jackson's ribcage but misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Wylie paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wylie lands a nice shot that snaps Jackson's head back.
Jackson moves in looking to clinch but Wylie pushes him off.

and Jackson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Wylie!
Wylie is looking to get back to his feet here but Jackson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Wylie's back.

Jackson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Wylie is defending well though. Jackson let's go of the attempt for now.

Jackson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Wylie has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Jackson is trying to stick to Wylie's back but Wylie is turning into Jackson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Jackson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Wylie.

Jackson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wylie defends it easily.

Wylie content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Jackson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Wylie is defending well. Jackson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Wylie has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Jackson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jon Jackson!
Jon Jackson really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Island clothing lite logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
