PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Gooderich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell comes to the ring accompanied by Harder Than You Think- Public Enemy. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grant Gooderich!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell drops his hands momentarily and Gooderich takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Liddell does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Liddell stuffs the takedown attempt from Gooderich. Gooderich gets slowly back to his feet.
Liddell shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gooderich goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
No luck for Gooderich with that takedown attempt.

Liddell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gooderich sprawls well initially but Liddell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Liddell is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gooderich pushes Liddell off but Liddell dives into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Liddell tries to advance to mount but Gooderich instead regains half guard.
Gooderich is trying to stand back up but Liddell is controlling him

Gooderich is in trouble now - Liddell has advanced to mount!
Gooderich wants to try and get back to his feet.
Gooderich is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Liddell wants to control the pace but Gooderich is squirming around nicely.

Liddell get's back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gooderich tries to close the distance and clinch up but Liddell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Liddell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gooderich moves away.
Liddell blocks a head kick by Gooderich.
Gooderich is looking to clinch.

Gooderich has managed to clinch.
Gooderich tries to land a knee to the head but Liddell blocks with his arms.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Gooderich connects with a nasty looking knee right to Liddell's face.
Gooderich misses with an elbow over the top.
Gooderich is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Liddell wants to get back to striking at distance but Gooderich won't allow it.
Liddell is looking to break free of the clinch but Gooderich has double underhooks.
Liddell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Liddell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Grant Gooderich dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gooderich is looking to clinch but Liddell is avoiding it.

Liddell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Liddell misses with a low kick as Gooderich jumps back.
Liddell throws a head kick that half lands.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Liddell with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gooderich to score with a decent uppercut.
Grant Gooderich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gooderich tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Liddell paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The fight stays on the outside here - Gooderich looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gooderich checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Liddell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nice takedown defense from Liddell. No joy for Gooderich on that attempt.

Liddell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gooderich doesn't manage to clinch there - Liddell circles away.
Gooderich misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Grant Gooderich.

Gooderich is looking to take a break and control but Liddell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gooderich decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Gooderich lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Liddell backs up against the ropes.

Gooderich is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Liddell's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Liddell's back!

Gooderich tries to keep control of the position but Liddell is staying busy.
Liddell is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Gooderich.

Gooderich controlling the position well here. Liddell rolled but Gooderich kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
