PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Kalua (ranked 5768 p4p, 5680 weight class) and Ice Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalua comes to the cage accompanied by Blowin' in the Wind - Bob Dylan. Ice Black is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Kalua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ice Black!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kalua swings for the body but Black moves out of range.
Kalua misses the body punch
and Black counters with a left to the body.
Black lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Black moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kalua tries to clinch but Black is having none of it.
Kalua shoots in and drives through. Black sprawls well.
Kalua displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Black throws out the jab.
Kalua doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Black counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Black throws a big shot that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kalua takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kalua looks to land a combination but Black avoids it well.
Kalua throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Black sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kalua tests Black's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kalua takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kalua displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Black throws out the jab.
Kalua shoots for a double leg takedown but Black sprawls well. He's pushed Kalua's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Kalua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kalua tries to close the distance and clinch but Black swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kalua misses the jab.
A jab from Black does it's job there.
Kalua blocks a jab.
Kalua misses with an uppercut
and Black connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Black lands with a good body shot.
Kalua has a takedown stuffed.
Black loads up on a big right hand but Kalua slips the punch.
Kalua on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
A cross from Black lands.
Black lands a jab to the nose.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Black scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kalua misses with a straight right.
A little jabbing left from Black on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kalua shoots in but Black avoids the takedown attempt easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Black! But no joy.
Kalua slips under a jab.
Nice defenses there by Kalua.

Kalua closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Black quickly recovers to half guard.
Kalua trying to control from half guard but Black is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kalua frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kalua scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Black?
Kalua lands with some strikes.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Black can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kalua wants to control the pace but Black is squirming around nicely.
Black is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kalua throwing strikes here but Black is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Kalua pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Black wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Kalua has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Black taps furiously! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Richard Kalua!
An out of breath Richard Kalua thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Ice Black spoke after the fight, saying '40-60---60-60'.
