PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Slon Mamontov (ranked 3423 p4p, 1103 weight class) and Leonard Susskind (ranked 435 p4p, 155 weight class). Leonard Susskind is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Slon Mamontov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Leonard Susskind!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Susskind loads up on a big right hand but Mamontov slips the punch.
Mamontov tries to counter with a takedown but Susskind is quick to defend against it.

Mamontov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Susskind manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mamontov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Susskind is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mamontov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mamontov tries to free his leg and advance position but Susskind is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mamontov ducks under a wild hook from Susskind.
Susskind has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Susskind throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mamontov sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mamontov or perhaps it was just good defense by Susskind, which made it look bad.

and Mamontov counters with a shoot takedown. Susskind fights it but they end up in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mamontov advances position into side control!

Mamontov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Susskind, who protects the arm well.
Mamontov passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Susskind!
Mamontov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mamontov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Susskind is looking to escape.

We've been hearing good reports from Mamontov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Susskind is wriggling around trying to escape.

Mamontov working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Susskind is looking to improve his position but Mamontov isn't that keen on the idea.
Mamontov wants to control the pace but Susskind is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Susskind defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mamontov.
Mamontov controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mamontov tries to control but Susskind wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Susskind is controlling an arm, preventing Mamontov from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mamontov has hold of Susskind's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Susskind manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mamontov wants to take Susskind's back here but Susskind is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Slon Mamontov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Susskind wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Susskind gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mamontov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Susskind can do to turn this around?

Mamontov stays in close to Susskind's body and controls the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mamontov wants to control from the top but Susskind keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice uppercut lands for Susskind. That snapped Mamontov's head back.
Susskind connects with a nice looking jab.

Susskind dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Mamontov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Susskind to the mat! Susskind manages to get full guard.
Susskind can't keep his opponent in guard - Mamontov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Mamontov seems content to control.
Mamontov wants to free his trapped foot but Susskind is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mamontov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Mamontov wants to work for an arm triangle but Susskind is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mamontov trying to control the action but Susskind is working from the bottom.

Mamontov wants to pass the guard but Susskind is defending well.
Mamontov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Mamontov works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mamontov is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Susskind is in real trouble.

Mamontov looking to break Susskind's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Susskind remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mamontov will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Mamontov is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Susskind has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Mamontov has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Susskind taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Mamontov doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Slon Mamontov!
A relieved looking Slon Mamontov thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
