PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Armad Bates (ranked 94 p4p, 107 weight class) and Kaki Mountain (ranked 10 p4p, 13 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armad Bates!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kaki Mountain!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Topper Green and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mountain avoids the body shot from Bates.
Armad Bates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bates throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mountain! But no joy.
Bates uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mountain.

Bates misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Mountain counters with a nice body kick.
Bates ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Mountain swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mountain on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Mountain looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Bates takes a swing at Mountain's ribcage but misses.

Bates ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Bates connects with a good right hand that stumbles Mountain. Mountain circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bates lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mountain takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Bates moves into range and clinches up with Mountain.
Bates has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Mountain swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Bates throws a head punch that misses.
Mountain can't find room to land a body shot as Bates controls the action.
Mountain digs a right hand underneath Bates's ribcage. Bates let out a lung full of air as it connected.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Mountain.
Mountain wants to get back to striking at distance but Bates won't allow it.
Mountain lands with a left to the head.
Mountain lands with a light punch inside.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mountain swings wildly with an uppercut but Bates uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mountain lands a body shot in the clinch.

Mountain tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Mountain struggles to land a body shot inside as Bates controls his hands.
Mountain makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Mountain tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Bates's elbow.

The referee is keeping an eye on Bates - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Bates has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mountain regains guard immediately.
Bates prevents Mountain from getting back to his feet.
Mountain is trying to control the position but Bates postures up.
Mountain is looking to stand up but Bates isn't so interested in that idea.
Bates is stalling in the full guard.

Bates is standing up over Mountain. Mountain looks to escape but Bates dives into side control.

Mountain is trying to buck Bates off.
Mountain is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Bates with the ground and pound but Mountain regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Mountain really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bates. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mountain gets full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bates sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Bates throws a big elbow that misses.
Bates trying to control the position from guard on top but Mountain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Armad Bates will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Mountain just misses with a punch to the body.

Mountain ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Mountain looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Bates lands with an overhand left.

Bates moves into range and clinches up with Mountain.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mountain.
A head punch on the inside from Mountain fails to land.
Bates digs a right hand into Mountain's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Mountain's gas tank.
Bates misses with a hook to the ribs.

Bates pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bates is working an open guard so Mountain takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Bates works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Mountain takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Bates is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mountain can do to turn this around?

Mountain drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Kaki Mountain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mountain lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bates punishes Mountain's body with a nice straight punch.
Bates is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Bates comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bates moves in looking to clinch but Mountain pushes him off.

A little jabbing left from Mountain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Mountain keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bates.
Bates connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mountain momentarily.
Bates pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Bates backing away here, and Mountain unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Bates stalks Mountain and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mountain's face. Mountain staggers backwards, shaken.
Bates lands a really nice looking cross but Mountain seems unphased.

Bates doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mountain connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bates moves in looking to clinch but Mountain pushes him off.

Bates doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Bates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mountain's waist but Mountain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bates off to one side.
Mountain throws a fast counter high kick but Bates manages to duck under it in time.

Bates throws a jab when Mountain was well out of range.
Mountain throws out a counter right but Bates avoids it with no problem.
Bates avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bates was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Bates swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Bates will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mountain is trying to counter with his kicks.
Armad Bates is winning the standup battle so far.
Bates throws a poor cross that misses
and Mountain counters with a stiff right hand.
Oh Bates is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bates misses with a jab to the body

and Mountain counters with a crisp right hand that drops Bates! Mountain lets Bates back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Bates has his takedown stuffed
and Mountain counters with a big right hand! Oh Bates is in trouble here! Mountain follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kaki Mountain!

During a confident post fight interview, Kaki Mountain thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
