PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harry Moura (ranked 302 p4p, 601 weight class) and Bob Bronte (ranked 17 p4p, 35 weight class). Bronte has chosen Buffalo Charge by Dub Phizix and Strategy as his entrance music. Bob Bronte told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harry Moura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Bronte!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bronte moves out of range of the body kick.
Moura drives through and clinches with Bronte against the cage.
Moura lands a left hand that snaps the head of Bronte backwards.
Still in the clinch, Bronte scores with a nice short uppercut.
Moura lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Bronte or not.
Moura has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Bronte goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Moura softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Moura fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bronte looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Bronte throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Moura scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Bronte connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bronte is not content to let Moura control the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moura tries to pass to full mount but Bronte defends it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bronte is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Moura tries to close the distance and clinch but Bronte swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bronte lands a slapping body shot.
Moura scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Moura pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bronte avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Moura ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

The crowd cheers as Bronte lands an impressive looking overhand right. Moura doesn't seem phased though.
Bronte closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Moura is on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Moura accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moura throws a strike but Bronte rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Moura throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bronte uses it to pass to side control.
Bronte working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Moura is refusing to be controlled, as Bronte sits in half guard.
Bronte decides to return to a standing position.

A looping hook to the body misses from Moura. Bronte does a little dance to reset his feet.
Bronte connects with a body shot that sends Moura's belly button to the back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A left lands for Bronte.
Bronte cracks Moura with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Harry Moura's cut is getting worse.
Moura lands with an overhand left.
Moura jabs Bronte to the body, keeping him at a distance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Bob Bronte will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Harry Moura's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Moura lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Moura dodges the punch combination from Bronte.
The fighters circling - Moura throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Moura tries to clinch up.
Nice straight punches there by Moura. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Moura.

Bronte throws a hook but Moura avoids it easily.

Moura has Bronte pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bronte manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Bronte lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Bronte tightens his grip and picks Moura up, before dumping him to the ground. Moura manages to land in guard.
Moura has his foot on Bronte's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bronte works his way back into a safe position though.
Moura can't keep his opponent in guard - Bronte advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bronte passes to full mount!
Bronte has hold of Moura's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Moura manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Bronte fails to take his opponent's back.
Moura is wriggling around trying to escape.

Bronte is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Moura has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Moura really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Moura tries to hold on but Bronte pushes him away.
Moura manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Bronte throwing shots but Moura is blocking nicely.
Bronte uses his free foot to push down on Moura's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Moura.
Moura is trying to escape the mount.

Bronte trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bronte is working for a guillotine from mount but Moura frees his head quite easily.
Moura is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bronte moves to the back.
Moura wants to get back to his feet.
Moura trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

I would not like to be Moura right now.

I really don't envy Moura right now.
Bronte is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Moura has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Bronte looking to break Moura's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Moura remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Bronte will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Moura is trying to get back to his feet but Bronte has full control of the position and if anything, Moura has just worked his way into a worse spot.
And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Bronte comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bronte has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
