PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hansen (ranked 1254 p4p, 542 weight class) and Albert Sojka (ranked 169 p4p, 71 weight class). Hansen's entrance music is Black Sabbath - Iron Man. A fine choice. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcus Hansen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Albert Sojka!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sojka tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hansen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sojka tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hansen was well out of range. Poor timing from Sojka.
Hansen slips under a jab.
Hansen connects with a nice looking jab.
Hansen lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Sojka lands with a nice body punch.
We've been hearing reports that Hansen has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Sojka swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sojka throws a series of punches but Hansen moves out of range.
Sojka wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sojka misses with the combination.
The fighters circling - Hansen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Despite the aggression on Sojka's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sojka enables Hansen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sojka manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hansen scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hansen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hansen trying to control but Sojka is working from the bottom.
Sojka told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Hansen connects with a couple of short punches.
Sojka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hansen throws a big elbow that misses.
Hansen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sojka's head.
Hansen is pushing down on Sojka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sojka is fighting to maintain full guard but Hansen has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hansen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sojka does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hansen is nestled in close to Sojka, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sojka is trying to stand.
Sojka avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hansen.

Hansen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sojka defending well though.
Sojka is trying to stand back up but Hansen is controlling him
Sojka is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Hansen winds up and cracks Sojka with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Hansen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hansen working over Sojka with some ground and pound. Sojka looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hansen thows a huge punch but Sojka dodges it nicely.
Hansen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Hansen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sojka pushes Hansen off looking to stand but Hansen dives back in and keeps control.
Hansen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Sojka makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hansen steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sojka.
Sojka ducks under a wild hook from Hansen.
Sojka wants to clinch up but Hansen keeps it at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hansen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sojka loads up on a big right hand but Hansen slips the punch.
Hansen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hansen swings widly with a right hand
enabling Sojka to counter with a crisp jab.
Hansen staying out of range there.
Nice cross by Sojka.
Hansen throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sojka on the side of the head.
Sojka swings for the body but Hansen moves out of range.
Hansen lands a nice looking body shot.
Hansen walks into a left hand.
Hansen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Hansen cracks Sojka with a solid left hand.
Sojka avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Sojka pushes Hansen off and scrambles back to his feet.
Hansen jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Sojka is rocked!
Hansen lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Sojka falls backwards - clearly groggy! Hansen dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcus Hansen!
During a confident post fight interview, Marcus Hansen thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
