PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Allen (ranked 5587 p4p, 4339 weight class) and Matt King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jackson Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt King!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Dean Styles and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King clinches.
King tries to score a body lock takedown but Allen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

King pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
King misses with a takedown
and Allen counters with a big head kick but King shrugs it off.

King is rocked!
King throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Allen counters with a crisp one two that drops King! Allen thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves King to his feet! King is in big trouble!
King is still on wobbly legs! Can Allen finish him?

Allen darts in and clinches King up against the cage.
King has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Allen after a bit of a struggle.
Jackson Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt King.

Allen manages to pull guard.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Allen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Allen looking to control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Allen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. King manages to get himself to full guard.

Allen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of King's head.
King has his hands on Allen's head, controlling the position.
Allen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Allen wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
King seems to have recovered his senses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Allen defends well.
Allen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
King doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.
Allen advances to half guard.
King regains full guard. Nicely done.

King isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Allen stacks King on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Allen!

King throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
King goes for a double leg but Allen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Allen continues to drive forward.
Allen shoots in looking for a takedown but King manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Allen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
King is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Allen to the ground. King is now in Allen's guard.

Allen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Allen wants to control the position but King says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Allen moves into full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
King trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Allen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
King might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Allen haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Allen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.
King stopping the sweep attempt from Allen.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Allen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Allen has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Allen is breathing heavily.
King defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Allen.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Allen jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as King walks away with a smile on his face. Allen gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Allen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Matt King dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
King tries a head kick but it misses.
King is looking to clinch but Allen is avoiding it.
King tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Allen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

King gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Allen keeps the fight in the clinch, despite King's efforts to push away.

King jumps guard and drags Allen to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

King looking to control.
King can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.

King is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Allen has his hands clasped together but King extends and breaks Allen's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by King.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Matt King!
