PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kugus Amiga (ranked 24219 p4p, 24224 weight class) and Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kugus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga shoots for a takedown but Salvacion saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Salvacion replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Amiga blocks it well.
Salvacion looks for a takedown but Amiga sprawls well.
Amiga swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Salvacion dives in and grabs Amiga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Amiga's waist but Amiga gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salvacion off to one side.
Amiga quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Kugus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clifford Val Salvacion.

and Salvacion decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Amiga's guard.

Amiga pulls Salvacion in to control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Amiga has Salvacion pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown but Amiga manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salvacion's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Amiga closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Salvacion's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salvacion pulls Amiga in close to prevent any damage.
Amiga controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salvacion is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Salvacion pulls Amiga in close to his closed guard and prevents Amiga from doing any damage or advancing position.
Amiga controls from within his opponent's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Salvacion not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kugus Amiga dominated that round.
That's time! Amiga's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Amiga gets a takedown into half guard.
Amiga is thwarting Salvacion's attempts to control the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion is doing well to control the position and prevent Amiga from advancing to side control.

Still in half guard, Amiga seems content to control.
Salvacion is looking to improve his position.
Amiga content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Amiga.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.

Salvacion shoots in and gets a takedown into Amiga's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Salvacion is now in half guard.
Salvacion is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Amiga regains full guard. Nicely done.
Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Salvacion accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Salvacion darts in looking for a takedown but Amiga gets double underhooks and turns Salvacion into the cage.

Amiga throws a push kick but Salvacion slaps the foot to one side.
Salvacion flicks out a counter leg kick but Amiga steps away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Clifford Val Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Amiga shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion shows good takedown defense.
Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Salvacion postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Salvacion stays in close to Amiga's body and controls the position.

Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Amiga wants to stand but Salvacion is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Amiga is pulling down on Salvacion's head to control his posture.
Salvacion is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Amiga keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Amiga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Amiga is defended easily by Salvacion.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kugus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Amiga quickly recovers to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Clifford Val Salvacion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
