PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wally Lewis (ranked 3524 p4p, 4985 weight class) and Musa Vitalik (ranked 464 p4p, 555 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wally Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Musa Vitalik!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vitalik dives in and scores a takedown into Lewis's guard.
Vitalik throwing strikes from guard but Lewis blocks nicely.
Lewis seems keen to control Vitalik's posture.
Vitalik postures up in Lewis's guard and throws a big left but Lewis blocks it.
Vitalik distracts Lewis with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Vitalik must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vitalik scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lewis looking for a guillotine here but Vitalik defends easily.
Vitalik makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vitalik won't allow Lewis to get back to his feet.
Vitalik throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lewis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Vitalik postures up in Lewis's guard and throws a big left but Lewis blocks it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vitalik accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lewis pulls Vitalik in close to his closed guard and prevents Vitalik from doing any damage or advancing position.
Vitalik keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lewis's head.

Vitalik is fighting to break Lewis's control of his arms but Lewis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Vitalik postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Vitalik seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vitalik won't allow Lewis to sweep him here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vitalik is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Vitalik won't allow Lewis to get back to his feet.
Vitalik postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Lewis is adopting a defensive guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lewis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Vitalik doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vitalik can do anything to dispel that myth.
Vitalik looking for a sweep. Not yet Vitalik, not yet.
Lewis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vitalik is keeping the position for now.
Vitalik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vitalik is looking to sweep but instead, Lewis has passed into half guard.
Vitalik keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Lewis is keen to just control but Vitalik is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Vitalik wants to get back to full guard.
Vitalik keeps trying to improve his position.

Lewis is working for a kimura but Vitalik is defending it quite comfortably.
Vitalik is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lewis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lewis's back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vitalik lands a shot to the body.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Musa Vitalik dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

A jab from Vitalik misses.
It looked like Lewis was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Vitalik.
Vitalik uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lewis has time to react.

It looks like Wally Lewis has been cut.
Lewis tries to score with a low kick but Vitalik moves his leg out of the way.
Vitalik waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lewis.
Vitalik misses with a looping right.
Vitalik lunges at Lewis with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Lewis's hand.
Lewis tries to move into range but Vitalik moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Lewis is rocked!
Vitalik swings away with a body shot that misses
and Lewis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Lewis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vitalik lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Oh Lewis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Vitalik throws a pinpoint strike between Lewis's hands that connects right on the jaw and sends Lewis crashing to the floor! He's out before he even hits the mat and Vitalik scores a great knockout victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Musa Vitalik!
