PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Ringo (ranked 2293 p4p, 2661 weight class) and Pultti Pyssy (ranked 287 p4p, 317 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Ringo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pultti Pyssy!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pyssy connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Pyssy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ringo sprawls well initially but Pyssy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Ringo is looking for a sweep. Pyssy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pyssy is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Pyssy is working for a submission of some sort.

Pyssy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ringo is just riding it out for now. Pyssy eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pyssy prevents Ringo from improving his position.

Pyssy controlling the action here.

Pyssy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ringo has managed to free his arm - good work.
Pyssy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ringo's head.
Pyssy works his foot free and advances to mount.
Ringo is squirming around, avoiding Pyssy's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ringo is desperately trying to improve his position but Pyssy has a good base and remains in mount.
Pyssy looking to ground and pound but Ringo is blocking nicely.
Ringo is controlling an arm, preventing Pyssy from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Pyssy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Ringo is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pyssy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ringo turns into him and now he's in Pyssy's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ringo trying to control the position from guard on top but Pyssy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pyssy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ringo is one step ahead there.
Ringo trying to control but Pyssy is working from the bottom.
Ringo tries to stand but Pyssy is controlling from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Pyssy working for a triangle but Ringo defends it easily.
Ringo content to stall in guard here.
Pyssy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Ringo wanted to stand there but Pyssy had control of the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ringo trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Ringo preventing the sweep.
Ringo wants to stand but Pyssy has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pultti Pyssy dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Pyssy gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ringo.
Pyssy misses with the body kick
enabling Ringo to counter with a crisp jab.
Ringo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Pyssy drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Ringo defends it well.
Pyssy swinging wildly here.
Ringo looks to land a left hand but Pyssy moved out of range nicely.
Ringo looks to throw the jab but Pyssy is out of range.
Ringo jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Ringo checks a low kick from Pyssy.
Ringo throwing a counter right hand but Pyssy manages to avoid it.
Johnny Ringo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That kick from Pyssy tenderised Ringo's leg. Ringo is trying to keep his angry face on.
Pyssy tries to close the distance and clinch but Ringo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pyssy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ringo to the mat! Ringo manages to get full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ringo keeping moving, preventing Pyssy from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pyssy is stalling in the full guard.
Pyssy slips nicely into half guard.
Pyssy wants to take a breather but Ringo is having none of it.
Pyssy is just content to waste time from the top position. Ringo takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Pyssy with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pyssy stands and throws Ringo's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pyssy is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ringo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Pyssy swings around for an armbar but Ringo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pyssy's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pyssy is on top in guard.

Ringo wants to stand but Pyssy is controlling the position.
Pyssy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ringo's guard.
Still in half guard, Pyssy seems content to control.
Pyssy is pressing down on Ringo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ringo is holding on for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pyssy maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ringo could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Pyssy has cracked it and Ringo is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Pyssy!
