PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Xigua Tou (ranked 5228 p4p, 4140 weight class) and Rocky Hampton (ranked 477 p4p, 427 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Tou might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Gwen Stacy - Gone Fishing. See You In A Year.. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tou fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hampton avoids it really well and circles away.
Hampton is looking to clinch.

Tou working a defensive guard but Hampton manages to pass into side control anyway.
Tou tries to improve position but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hampton is putting a hurting on Tou here, landing some big shots from side control.

Tou has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hampton has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Hampton breaks Tou's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Tou has momentary wrist control but Hampton slips an elbow through the middle.

Tou is looking for a triangle but Hampton pushes his legs off easily.

Tou escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hampton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hampton sitting in guard here, content to control.
Hampton looking to sit in guard and control but Tou gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Tou wants to control from the top but Hampton keeps moving.
Hampton trying to keep a closed guard but Tou is proving a slippery customer.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tou's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Tou gets caught napping as Hampton dives in and scores a takedown. Tou manages to retain guard.
Hampton throws a strike but Tou rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hampton seems keen to control Tou's posture.
Tou trying to control the position from guard on top but Hampton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tou loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Tou got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hampton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tou has managed to get both his arms back between Hampton's legs - danger averted.

Hampton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tou defends it easily.

Hampton can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tou controls the pace.
Tou distracts Hampton with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tou throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hampton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tou wants to pass the guard but Hampton is keeping the position.
Tou postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rocky Hampton has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hampton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hampton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hampton wants it to stay on the feet.

Hampton has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Hampton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tou working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hampton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hampton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hampton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tou with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tou is staying active underneath Hampton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hampton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hampton parries the strikes from Tou easily there. Tou is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hampton to escape.
