PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marlon Raynard (ranked 1343 p4p, 1927 weight class) and Hanzo Hattori (ranked 183 p4p, 254 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marlon Raynard!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hanzo Hattori!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hattori moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Raynard doesn't manage to clinch there - Hattori circles away.
Hattori keeps the fight on the outside.
Hattori lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
An inside leg kick lands from Hattori.
Hattori buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Raynard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Raynard missing with a left hand there. Hattori was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hattori connects with a solid leg kick.
Raynard fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hattori follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
The fight stays on the outside here - Raynard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Marlon Raynard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Raynard has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hattori.
Raynard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hattori moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Raynard moves into range and clinches up with Hattori.
Hattori jumps guard but Raynard stands there with Hattori around his waist. Hattori gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hattori tries to pull guard but Raynard holds him up against the cage and eventually Hattori drops back down to his feet.
Raynard lands a shoulder strike.
Raynard lands a left hand that snaps the head of Hattori backwards.

Hattori pulls guard successfully.

Raynard slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hattori tries to bench press Raynard off him but Raynard keeps the position.
Hattori felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hattori really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Raynard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Raynard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hattori is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hattori is trying to get back to half guard.
Hattori is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Well, if Raynard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hattori steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Raynard.

Raynard tries to close the distance and clinch but Hattori swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Raynard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hattori lands a nice leg kick that just misses Raynard's sensitive parts.
Hattori fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hattori throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Raynard's head.

It looks like Marlon Raynard has been cut.
A nice inside leg kick there by Hattori. That's going to slow Raynard down.

Raynard is looking to clinch but Hattori is avoiding it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Nice body punch from Raynard - that landed with a thud.

Raynard successfully pulls guard.
Hattori wants to pass the guard but Raynard is keeping the position.
Raynard seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Raynard is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Raynard is looking to work his way around to Hattori's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marlon Raynard will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Hattori throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Raynard has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hattori.

Hattori tries to keep at a distance but Raynard has taken the fight into the clinch.

Hattori is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Raynard is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Raynard has escaped and now he's on top!


Hattori looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Raynard has picked Hattori up and slammed him! Hattori can't keep hold of the triangle and Raynard manages to pass to side control!

Hattori wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Raynard has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Hattori's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Hattori is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Raynard!
