Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hendrik Vermeulen (ranked 1874 p4p, 3068 weight class) and Captain Gonza (ranked 261 p4p, 415 weight class). Vermeulen comes into the arena with Dance Macabre (Carpenter Brut remix) - Ghost blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Captain Gonza!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermeulen ducks right into an uppercut from Gonza.
Vermeulen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gonza fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Gonza takes a body punch but keeps moving.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gonza. Vermeulen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vermeulen blocks a jab.
It looked like Vermeulen wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Vermeulen slips under a jab.
Gonza misses with a right hand
and Vermeulen counters with a nice uppercut.
Vermeulen takes one on the button.
Vermeulen has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Vermeulen takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A jab from Gonza finds it's way through Vermeulen's defenses.
Gonza lands with a thumping leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vermeulen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gonza connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Vermeulen scrambles back to his feet.
Gonza avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gonza scores with a sloppy right hand. Vermeulen should have avoided that one.

enabling Vermeulen to counter with a crisp jab.

Vermeulen drops his hands momentarily and Gonza takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Vermeulen moves into range and connects with a jab.
Vermeulen throws a looping overhand right but Gonza ducks down to avoid it.
Gonza might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

A punch lands to the side of Vermeulen 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Vermeulen lands a jab to the head.
Vermeulen sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

and Vermeulen counters with a straight right hand.
Gonza misses with a straight right.
Vermeulen is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vermeulen cracks Gonza with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Vermeulen missing with a left hand there. Gonza was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A nice side step and Gonza releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Nice defenses there by Vermeulen.
Gonza misses with a hook. Vermeulen ducked under it nicely.
Gonza throws a leg kick

and Vermeulen counters with a nice right hand that sends Gonza toppling to the canvas! Gonza scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Vermeulen finish him?!

Gonza is rocked!

Vermeulen fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Gonza out cold! Brutal finish!
