PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Prince McVicker (ranked 450 p4p, 991 weight class) and Lester Green (ranked 24 p4p, 57 weight class). Green has chosen This Is Beetle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Prince McVicker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Lester Green!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McVicker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Green!
Green takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

McVicker looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Green felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
McVicker working the strikes but Green uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

McVicker is working for a submission of some sort.
Green is staying active underneath McVicker, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McVicker wants to pass the guard but Green is defending well.

McVicker thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McVicker is just content to waste time from the top position. Green takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Green looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but McVicker puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

McVicker uses his free foot to push down on Green's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Green.

McVicker wants to finish this one by submission but Green is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from McVicker.
McVicker throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

McVicker sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
McVicker misses with some ground and pound and Green recovers position to half guard.

McVicker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Green is just riding it out for now. McVicker eventually gives up the hold.

Green has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McVicker is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McVicker in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

McVicker is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Green sees it coming and defends easily.
Green is trying to maintain the position but McVicker is very close to passing his half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

McVicker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Green throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Green moves out of range as McVicker strikes.
McVicker drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Green throws a shot from downtown. McVicker moves away and avoids it.

McVicker fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McVicker is trying hard to land a takedown here. Green sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Prince McVicker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Green walks into a stiff left hand from McVicker.
Green ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McVicker moves away.

Green throws a body punch but McVicker moves out of range.
McVicker ducks right into an uppercut from Green.
McVicker's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Green connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! McVicker scrambles back to his feet.
Green uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McVicker.
Nice defenses there by McVicker.
McVicker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Green counters with a nice body shot.
Green tests McVicker's chin there with a solid looking shot.
McVicker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Green as he jumps to the side.

Nice uppercut lands for McVicker. That snapped Green's head back.
McVicker moves out of range of the strikes.
McVicker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Green circles away quickly and effectively.
McVicker takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Green stuffs the takedown.
McVicker misses with a series of wild punches.
McVicker has his takedown stuffed
and Green counters with a straight right hand.

McVicker dives in and grabs Green's left leg, looking for a takedown. Green pushes down on McVicker's head and hops out.

and McVicker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Green's guard.
Prince McVicker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McVicker throws a strike but Green rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McVicker tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Green has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Green can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McVicker is looking to escape.
Green takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Lester Green showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


McVicker closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Green's guard.

Green has his feet on McVicker's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Green has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

McVicker misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Green.

McVicker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McVicker tries to move into full mount but can't pass Green's legs.

McVicker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

McVicker passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Green!
Green avoids a strike by McVicker and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in McVicker's guard! Fantastic escape!
Green slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McVicker looking for a sweep. Not yet McVicker, not yet.

McVicker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Green controls the pace.
McVicker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Green is one step ahead there.

McVicker has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Green is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McVicker.

The fighters circle momentarily. Green darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Green pulls McVicker in to control the position.

McVicker wants to pass the guard but Green is keeping the position.
McVicker throws an elbow that misses. Green uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in McVicker's guard. Nice move by Green!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Prince McVicker will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McVicker.

McVicker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McVicker misses with a hook. Green ducked under it nicely.
The fighters circling - Green throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McVicker drops down looking for a counter takedown but Green sprawls and moves away.
McVicker ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
McVicker is looking to counter the offense by Green and move into the clinch.
Green stuffs the takedown attempt from McVicker. McVicker gets slowly back to his feet.
Green dips to his left and cracks McVicker with an uppercut!
Green cracks McVicker with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

McVicker feints and as Green raises his hands in defense, McVicker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
McVicker wants to pass the guard but Green is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Green is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Green bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McVicker's guard.

McVicker looking for a sweep. Not yet McVicker, not yet.
McVicker lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Green utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Prince McVicker.
I think McVicker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
