PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hong Kong (ranked 1209 p4p, 1612 weight class) and George Pierre (ranked 166 p4p, 220 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kong might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Tom Cochrane - Life Is A Highway. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hong Kong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kong lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've been hearing reports that Kong has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Nice sprawl there from Pierre as Kong shoots in.
Pierre misses with a double jab
enabling Kong to counter with a crisp jab.
Pierre lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Pierre smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Kong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

It looks like George Pierre has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Pierre. Those never looked like landing.

and Pierre takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Kong throws a jab but it's blocked by Pierre.
Pierre rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Pierre uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kong.
Pierre is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Kong slips a straight right by Pierre.
Kong avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kong is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Pierre has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kong finds it's way round the side to connect with Pierre's head.
Pierre throws a hook to the side of Kong's head but Kong sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Pierre throws a shot from downtown. Kong moves away and avoids it.

and Kong counters with a shoot takedown. Pierre fights it but they end up in guard.
Kong postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pierre swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kong is working hard here to advance position.
Kong prevents Pierre from getting back to his feet.

Kong won't allow Pierre to get back to his feet.
Kong working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kong pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pierre is keeping the position for now.
Kong trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Kong is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pierre is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pierre has escaped and now he's on top!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kong has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pierre has passed into side control.

Kong is trying to get back to half guard.
Kong holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Kong is trying to work for a sweep but Pierre has mounted him!
Pierre prevents Kong from getting the reversal.
Kong wants to control but Pierre is having none of it.
Kong is wriggling around trying to escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pierre stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pierre. Kong does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kong throws a body shot but no joy.
Pierre throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pierre connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kong momentarily.
Pierre swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pierre throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
George Pierre is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pierre throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kong scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kong pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Kong cracks Pierre with an open hand slap.
Pierre works the jab nicely.
Pierre misses with an uppercut. Kong saw that one coming.
Pierre misses with a looping right.
Pierre misses with a two punch combination.
Kong smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Pierre will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

George Pierre dominated that round.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

George Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kong misses the jab.
Pierre swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pierre moves away from the strike by Kong.
Pierre scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Pierre swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pierre's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Pierre duly obliges.

The crowd cheers as Kong lands an impressive looking overhand right. Pierre doesn't seem phased though.

Kong takes one to the chin there.
Kong looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pierre missing with a left hand there. Kong was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kong.
Kong throws the left hand but Pierre avoids the punch easily.
Good standup being displayed there by Kong as he connects with a hook.
Pierre lands with a good body shot.
Pierre throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pierre misses with an uppercut.

Kong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kong wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pierre, who protects the arm well.
Kong sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Pierre is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Kong working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Kong has hold of Pierre's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Pierre tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Kong cranks the arm and Pierre screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Pierre, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Hong Kong!
Our winner, Hong Kong, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
