PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edgar Frankies (ranked 2609 p4p, 3529 weight class) and Hick Diaz (ranked 331 p4p, 434 weight class). Frankies's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Steady as she goes. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edgar Frankies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in for a double leg but Frankies sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Frankies as he jumps to the side.
Edgar Frankies has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hick Diaz.
Diaz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Frankies defends well and Diaz ends up having to push Frankies into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

and Frankies counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Diaz thinking.

Diaz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Frankies to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Diaz holds on and takes a little breather.
Diaz controls Frankies momentarily but Frankies frees himself.

Diaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Frankies manages to get himself to full guard.


Diaz drops back looking for a leg! Frankies is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Frankies manages to kick Diaz off! Diaz jumps back into Frankies's guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Diaz working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Frankies is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz has hold of Frankies's hands but Frankies slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Frankies seems to be working for a kimura but Diaz defends the submission attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz is controlling Frankies's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Frankies passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Diaz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frankies sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Diaz somewhat.
Diaz shoots in but Frankies avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Frankies changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Diaz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Frankies asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Frankies is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Frankies eventually gives up the hold.

Frankies stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Frankies cracks Diaz with a big right hand but Diaz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Frankies scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Diaz to see if he's OK.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom here.
Diaz is not content to let Frankies control the position.
Diaz tries to improve position but can't.
Frankies in side control lands a decent elbow.
Frankies misses with the ground and pound.
Frankies tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Diaz is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Frankies is putting a hurting on Diaz here, landing some big shots from side control.

Diaz is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Frankies is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Oooh a big shot lands for Frankies! Diaz is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Edgar Frankies!
