PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Flay (ranked 4519 p4p, 4603 weight class) and Tommy Gunn (ranked 527 p4p, 533 weight class). Gunn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "The Vengeful One" by Disturbed kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flay keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Flay scores with a takedown into Gunn's guard.
Flay trying to control but Gunn is working from the bottom.
Flay postures up in Gunn's guard and throws a big left but Gunn blocks it.
Flay landing with the ground and pound.
Flay is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gunn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Flay.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Gunn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gunn is trying to work for a kimura but Flay is defending well.
Flay controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Flay tries to get to full guard but Gunn has control of the leg.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Flay manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Gunn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flay.
A countering left hand to the body from Gunn misses.

Flay forces Gunn back against the cage and clinches.
Flay's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Gunn jumps guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Flay is looking to work some ground and pound but Gunn has wrist control.

Flay lands a couple of elbows.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Flay dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Flay fails with the takedown.
Gunn ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Gunn smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Gunn fails in his attempt to clinch.
Flay throwing a counter right hand but Gunn manages to avoid it.
Flay throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gunn's waist but Gunn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Flay off to one side.
Flay uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gunn.
Flay looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Flay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gunn punishes Flay's body with a nice straight punch.
Flay shoots in and drives through. Gunn sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gunn uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gunn is looking to clinch but Flay is avoiding it.
Flay loads up on a big right hand but Gunn slips the punch.

Flay gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gunn tries to pull guard but Flay holds him up against the cage and eventually Gunn drops back down to his feet.

Flay tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Gunn's elbow.
Flay lands with a light punch inside.
Flay leaning his opponent against the cage.

Flay turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Flay manages to end up in side control.
Flay lands some shots froms side control.
Flay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gunn on the ground.
Gunn is looking for a sweep.
Flay working the ground and pound.
Flay trying to control the action but Gunn is working from the bottom.
Flay cracks Gunn with a big right hand but Gunn just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Gunn avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Flay.
You can see the frustration on Gunn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Flay is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gunn has escaped the position, nice work there.
Check out the look on Flay's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Gunn tries to bench press Flay off him but Flay keeps the position.
Flay lands a nice forearm strike.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Flay has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gunn!

Gunn tries to lock up and control but Flay gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Flay trying to control but Gunn is having none of it.
Flay breaks from Gunn's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Flay with the ground and pound from mount.
Flay lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gunn hang on?
Flay lands a big shot there that rocks Gunn but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Flay lands a nice shot to the head.

Flay lands a heavy elbow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gunn takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Gunn takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Flay's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
