Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lars Kay (ranked 1040 p4p, 1755 weight class) and Roko Matijevic (ranked 114 p4p, 191 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lars Kay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Roko Matijevic!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matijevic moves out of range as Kay strikes.
Kay is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Matijevic.
Matijevic throws out a powerful jab.
Kay scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Kay shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Matijevic connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kay moves out of range of the body kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oh Kay is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kay connects with a nice short shot to Matijevic's temple.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matijevic can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
BOOM! Kay connects with a massive shot to the dome!
We've been hearing that Kay has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Matijevic follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

and Matijevic counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kay tries for a takedown but Matijevic sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Matijevic is trying to counter with his kicks.

Matijevic takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Kay looks to clinch

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kay is defended easily by Matijevic.

Kay throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matijevic's waist but Matijevic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kay off to one side.

Matijevic pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Matijevic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kay shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Matijevic is trying to defend but Kay finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matijevic felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Kay is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
