PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martin Johnston (ranked 3516 p4p, 22791 weight class) and Bjorn IronSide (ranked 438 p4p, 625 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnston might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Dacw 'Nghariad. The key to victory for Martin Johnston has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Martin Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bjorn IronSide!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
IronSide tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Johnston manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Johnston lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but IronSide circles away quickly and effectively.
IronSide throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

IronSide shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
IronSide prevents Johnston from getting back to his feet.

Johnston is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

IronSide told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.

You get the feeling that Johnston really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

It looks like Bjorn IronSide has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A jab-cross combination lands for Johnston and sends IronSide crashing to the mat! Johnston follows him down to the mat - IronSide regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

IronSide seems to have recovered his senses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
IronSide wants to improve his position but Johnston is controlling well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

IronSide lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Johnston circles away quickly and effectively.

Johnston throws a combination but it was largely blocked by IronSide.
IronSide changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

IronSide doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnston circles away.
As IronSide looks to move away, Johnston throws a big counter combo but IronSide just gets out of the way.
Johnston cracks IronSide with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Johnston tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but IronSide was well out of range. Poor timing from Johnston.
Johnston uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by IronSide.
IronSide lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Johnston circles away quickly and effectively.
Johnston throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on IronSide's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Johnston dives in looking to finish as IronSide flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Johnston's strikes! Johnston is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! IronSide's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but IronSide was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Martin Johnston!
After winning the bout, Martin Johnston thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
