PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Kogos (ranked 1148 p4p, 869 weight class) and Bugsy Seigel (ranked 167 p4p, 134 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Kogos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bugsy Seigel!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kogos rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Seigel moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Seigel appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Kogos checks the leg kick nicely there.
Kogos blocks a low kick nicely.
Seigel misses with a hook.

and Kogos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Kogos is trying to control the action in half guard but Seigel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kogos looks to land a strike but Seigel avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Kogos throws an elbow that misses. Seigel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kogos's guard. Nice move by Seigel!

Seigel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kogos is trying to keep Seigel in close.
Kogos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Seigel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Seigel has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Seigel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kogos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Seigel has managed to get both his arms back between Kogos's legs - danger averted.

Kogos is looking for a triangle but Seigel pushes his legs off easily.
Seigel wants to pass the guard but Kogos is keeping the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kogos bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Seigel's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kogos in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kogos wants to control from the top but Seigel keeps moving.

We've been hearing that Kogos has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Seigel is pulling down on Kogos's head. It's preventing any offense from Kogos, at least for the moment.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Seigel.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kogos accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like Bugsy Seigel has been cut.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kogos jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kogos works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Kogos dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Seigel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Seigel takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Kogos half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Kogos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Seigel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kogos somewhat.

Seigel steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Kogos.
Seigel cracks Kogos with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

It looks like Paulo Kogos has been cut.
Kogos misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Seigel lands a big right hand that sends Kogos crashing to the mat! Seigel stays standing though and waves Kogos back to his feet!

Seigel drops Kogos with a big knee straight up the middle! Kogos is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

A short right hand to the side of the head by Seigel.
Kogos throws a punch but it's blocked by Seigel.
Kogos wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Kogos prevents a body shot from Seigel.
Kogos's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Seigel throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kogos blocks it with crossed arms.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kogos takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Kogos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kogos slips a jab from Seigel.
Kogos throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Seigel sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Seigel follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Kogos throws a right hand that Seigel ducks under and follows up with a left that Seigel also avoids with ease.
Kogos fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Kogos throws a lazy right hand but Seigel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Seigel feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kogoss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

so Kogos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Seigel wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fighters circling - Seigel throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Kogos throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Seigel was covering up waiting for the punch and Kogos finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Kogos is stalling here. Seigel is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kogos seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Seigel has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

I would just about give that final round to Bugsy Seigel.
