And in the blue corner, fighting out of Helsinki, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 10 losses; Bo Nickal!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Nickal keeps the fight on the outside.
Cruz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Nickal holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Cruz tries to score a body lock takedown but Nickal shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Cruz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Nickal pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cruz is trying to drag Nickal to the mat but Nickal just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

It looks like Nickal might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Nickal with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Cruz is looking to improve his position but Nickal isn't that keen on the idea.
Cruz is controlling an arm, preventing Nickal from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Nickal manages to capitalize on a mistake by Cruz to take his back!

Nickal has the hooks in. Cruz is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Cruz tries to escape but Nickal has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Let's hope that Nickal has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cruz rolls, trying to escape but Nickal keeps control of the position.
Nickal is not going to allow Cruz to sit and survive in this position.
Nickal is looking to control Cruz but Cruz is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Cruz tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Bo Nickal seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
