PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Guy River (ranked 235 p4p, 604 weight class) and Maximus Furioto (ranked 33 p4p, 91 weight class). River comes to the cage accompanied by Gabon National Anthem. Furioto has chosen 韻踏合組合 - as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Guy River has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guy River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maximus Furioto!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Furioto slips a straight right by River.
River defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Furioto.
A solid leg kick lands there for River.
River throws a low kick but Furioto moves out of range easily.

Furioto feints and as River raises his hands in defense, Furioto changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Furioto chips away with some ground and pound.
Furioto is looking to work some ground and pound but River has wrist control.
Furioto throws an elbow that misses. River uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Furioto's guard. Nice move by River!


Furioto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. River doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. River manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Furioto looking for submissions from the bottom but instead River passes into half guard.

Furioto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but River pulls his head out easily.

Furioto regains full guard. Nicely done.
Furioto lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

River decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Furioto, up you get!
Furioto on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
A nice leg kick lands there from River.
Furioto avoids the body shot from River.
River throws a push kick but Furioto slaps the foot to one side.
Furioto shoots in for a takedown but River shows good takedown defense.
River looks for the body kick but Furioto saw that one coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
An inside leg kick from River misses.
River throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

River gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Furioto throws a big right hand that misses.

Furioto drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but River manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Furioto has River in his guard.

River trying to stand up but can't free himself from Furioto's guard.

Furioto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. River doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. River manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
River would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
River will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Furioto looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! River has picked Furioto up and slammed him! Furioto can't keep hold of the triangle and River manages to pass to side control!
Furioto is looking for a sweep.
Furioto manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
My spies in Desert Fitness & Training (14 Elite Coaches) inform me that Furioto has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Furioto is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Furioto looking for a submission but River manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Furioto pushes down on River's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Furioto is trying a forearm choke I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

River wants to get back to his feet.

Furioto is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! River is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Maximus Furioto!
Maximus Furioto really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Conquer logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
