PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Munhoz (ranked 1420 p4p, 3217 weight class) and Ted Meredith (ranked 190 p4p, 395 weight class). Meredith has chosen Skinny Boys - Skinny (They Can't Get Enough) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Alex Munhoz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Munhoz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Ted Meredith!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Munhoz dives in for a single leg takedown but Meredith sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Meredith tries to work over Munhoz's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Meredith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Meredith throws a right and a left that both miss.
Munhoz tries a head kick but it misses.
Meredith thuds a left hand into Munhoz's body.
Meredith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Meredith throws a good cross that connects.
Munhoz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Meredith misses with a body shot.
Munhoz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Meredith defends well and Munhoz ends up having to push Meredith into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Munhoz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Meredith napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Munhoz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Munhoz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Munhoz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Meredith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Meredith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Munhoz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Meredith can do anything to dispel that myth.

You can see the frustration on Meredith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Meredith is not content to let Munhoz control the position.
Meredith gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Meredith is trying to escape the mount.
Meredith is controlling an arm, preventing Munhoz from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Meredith is in all sorts of trouble here.

Munhoz seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Meredith is holding on tight.
Meredith told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Munhoz will probably get the nod.

Munhoz shoots in for a double leg but Meredith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Munhoz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Meredith was covering up waiting for the punch and Munhoz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Meredith pulls Munhoz in close to his closed guard and prevents Munhoz from doing any damage or advancing position.
Meredith controls Munhoz momentarily but Munhoz frees himself.

Munhoz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Meredith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Alex Munhoz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Meredith is looking to control Munhoz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Meredith avoid being mounted?

Munhoz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Meredith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Munhoz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Meredith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Munhoz has managed to get both his arms back between Meredith's legs - danger averted.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Munhoz will probably get the nod.

Meredith lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Munhoz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Meredith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Munhoz is in Meredith's guard.
