Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy King (ranked 1139 p4p, 1283 weight class) and Wanderlei Rua (ranked 63 p4p, 70 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 3, fighting out of New York, Jimmy King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wanderlei Rua!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua throws a low kick but it's checked well by King.
Rua uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from King.
King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rua was well out of range. Poor timing from King.
Rua chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before King can pounce on him.
Rua is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by King.
King jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Rua lands a leg kick that knocks King off balance momentarily.
Rua fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.
King pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A good leg kick by King.
Rua misses with a hook. King ducked under it nicely.
A little feinted left hand from King on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
King throws an overhand right that lands on Rua's shoulder, as Rua tries to avoid the shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from King lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rua has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rua and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
A nice leg kick lands there from King.
King throws a body punch but Rua moves out of range.
Rua wants to counter with a clinch but King pushes him away.
Rua tried to score with a low kick but King checks it.
Rua is looking to slow King down with leg kicks.

Rua catches King napping and connects with a big right hand that sends King to the canvas!

It looks like Jimmy King has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rua wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Rua stops King from standing up.
We've been hearing good reports from King's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Rua looking to sit in guard and control but King gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua is controlling King's posture.
Rua's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Rua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
King is in close to Rua's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rua has his hands on King's head, controlling the position.
Rua is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King throwing strikes but missing.
King seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
King won't allow Rua to sweep him here.
King postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rua looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rua keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
King slips under a jab.
King half committed to a counter leg kick.
Rua goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A little feinted left hand from King on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nice defenses there by Rua.
A punch combination from King misses.
Rua is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Rua slips a straight right by King.
Rua turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Rua ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
King doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Rua throws a quick head kick that knocks King silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Rua is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Wanderlei Rua!
After winning the bout, Wanderlei Rua thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
