PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeronimo Puno (ranked 251 p4p, 286 weight class) and Grant Alyoshin (ranked 45 p4p, 49 weight class). Puno comes to the cage accompanied by RAGS 2 RICHES. Grant Alyoshin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeronimo Puno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Grant Alyoshin!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alyoshin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Puno blocks a head kick by Alyoshin.
Alyoshin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Puno has time to react.

It looks like Jeronimo Puno has been cut.
Alyoshin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Grant Alyoshin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alyoshin waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Puno.
Puno appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Alyoshin with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Puno misses the shot to the body.
A head kick misses from Alyoshin.
Puno takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puno bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Puno throws a big shot that misses.
Alyoshin shapes to counter with a head kick.
Puno tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Puno looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alyoshin plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Puno throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Alyoshin swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Puno cracks Alyoshin with an open hand slap.
Alyoshin lands a jab.
Alyoshin wants to clinch up but Puno keeps it at a distance.
Puno keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Puno thuds his shin into the meat of Alyoshin's side.
Alyoshin looks winded!
Puno throws a series of punches but Alyoshin moves out of range.
Puno throws a front kick that sends Alyoshin stumbling back into the cage.

Puno lands a big right hand that sends Alyoshin crashing to the mat! Puno stays standing though and waves Alyoshin back to his feet!

It looks like Grant Alyoshin has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alyoshin missing with a left hand there. Puno was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Puno pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Puno throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Puno will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Alyoshin appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Alyoshin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Puno was well out of range. Poor timing from Alyoshin.
Puno sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Alyoshin's defenses. It connects perfectly with Alyoshin's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jeronimo Puno!
Jeronimo Puno was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
