PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Herrera (ranked 5781 p4p, 23261 weight class) and Swag Surf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Herrera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Swag Surf!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Surf shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Herrera as he jumps to the side.
Surf tries to clinch

and Herrera counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Surf wants to stand up but Herrera is controlling him.

Surf has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Herrera off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Herrera fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Surf on the side of the head.
Herrera throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Surf takes one to the chin there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Surf closes the distance and pushes Herrera back into the cage.

Herrera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Herrera tries for a takedown but Surf sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Herrera gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Surf to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Herrera pushes Surf off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Herrera circles away from the clinch attempt.
Herrera swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Surf pushes Herrera up against the cage in a clinch.

Herrera works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Surf can do anything to dispel that myth.
Surf wants to stand and escape but Herrera is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Surf manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Surf gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Herrera to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Herrera is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Surf is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Herrera trying to control but Surf is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Surf is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Herrera is controlling him.
Herrera looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Surf has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Herrera is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Surf drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Herrera has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Surf uses from the top position.
Surf with a nice head shot there.

Surf drops back looking for a leg! Herrera is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Herrera manages to kick Surf off! Surf jumps back into Herrera's guard.

Herrera is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Surf scoring with punches to the head and body.

Surf has gone for a leg lock! Herrera slips out almost immediately though and dives into Surf's guard.

Herrera trying to control but Surf is working from the bottom.
Surf wants to get back to his feet but Herrera is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Surf is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Surf manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A nice right hand lands inside from Herrera.
Surf is looking to take this one to the mat.
Paul Herrera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Swag Surf.
Surf is looking to take this one to the mat.

Herrera pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Surf tries to clinch
and Surf takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Herrera throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Surf's waist but Surf gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Herrera off to one side.
Herrera fails to land the takedown.
Herrera fails with an attempt to clinch.
Surf with a poor takedown
and Herrera counters with a three punch combo that has Surf backing up. Surf nods at Herrera to acknowledge the strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Herrera circles away from the clinch attempt.
Surf tries to clinch but Herrera is having none of it.
Surf misses with a takedown attempt - Herrera sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Herrera dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

You can follow us on Twitter at...Ooooooh Surf got wobbled bad by a big combination! Herrera presses forward with punches and knees until Surf stumbles to the ground! The ref watches Surf closely before deciding to step in and end the fight!

During a confident post fight interview, Paul Herrera thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
